One day, I was discussing having another dinner with a great group of friends of mine. It was during the Christmas in July celebrations and I thought it would be great to eat at another Chinese restaurant, because I am a regular to Chinese places as a critic and leader in the Asian cuisine industry.
As I walked in, I was shocked by the lack of space in the room. There was a lot of hype about the place, as people told me they really like it, but the room was quite squishy and too quiet. So quiet, other customers stared at me like I wasn't welcome or something.
A lady greeted me after 20 seconds of waiting and standing there awkwardly. She led me to my table, where I sat down. They didn't offer me any drinks to start off with. But I didn't really notice it at the time. I began to look at the menu.
Overall, the presentation of the menu was mediocre. It sufficed at the time, but they could have had more customised fonts for the text. I noticed one thing that stuck out to me: PINEAPPLE DUCK.
It looked delicious so I ordered it. I am a duck connoisseur. After waiting for a little while, I received my meal, and it was stunning on the plate. The contrast in colours was quite extraordinary, and the portion size was larger than that of its neighbours. Thr price of it was also a dollar cheaper than other places. They remain competitive because of their prices being one dollar cheaper than their conpetitiors', but it still isn't worth it.
I grabbed a large healthy forkful of the duck on my plate. The skin was crispy and golden. The rice was brown and fine. As it entered my mouth, I took a large bite. AND THERE WERE BONES IN IT!
I nearly broke a tooth, choking on the bones in the duck. Never have I been to a restaurant that doesn't debone their duck. I have eaten duck at many other places, and they are all bone removed. I was shocked and horrified to see the bones all across the duck. How lazy and cheap can you be: keeping your bones in.
It was such an inconvenience having to cut them out myself. It was embarrassing, and I had to spit out the first one I nearly choked on. It wasn't safe.
Why didn't they tell me they kept the bones in?!
Also, I realised they didn't give us any drinks to order. I asked for a drinks menu, but they didn't have one.
She told me I had to go to the fridge and take it out myself. I stared at the fridge to see that they were all generic cans of generic drunks like Coke and Sprite. Do I look like a slave?
I am paying for the drinks and meals. The employee should have a menu for me, so she can serve me the drinks I want.
They should also not use the basic cans. They should have their own glasses as well as custom cocktails and mocktails. Their competitors have all of that stuff, so why don't they? I don't know. But it was quite the shock. So in the end, I ordered no drinks. I am not getting out of my seat, while I am eating a meal.
When we finished, they said that they didn't split the bill. Only cash bills could be split. Like excuse me?! So many restaurants in Wollongong don't allow the splitting of the bill. It is rude. So we had to whip out cash in order to pay for it. The lady was quite rude about it too. It is not my fault that you don't split the bill! How annoying and inconsiderate!
Once she tallied up the total cost, she asked if I got any drinks from the fridge, and I said "No!". She was too lazy to check if I ordered drinks so she asked me. It was ridiculous that she wasted my time asking such useless questions.
After I left, with heavy cash change in my pocket, I expressed to my friends that I would never go there again.
PS. The bathroom should be more visible. PPS. They should accept more card instead of cash. PPPS. I hated my table and I wanted the circular one. PPPPS. The parking situation was a nightmare.
I am about to hit the word limit, so I...

Read moreGot a takeaway order. Thai fried rice. Very very dry. No flavour. Full of non identifiable white spongy meat (smelt fishy) and prawns. Barely eaten.
Lamb ribs. Also dry. Flavour ok. Was not what it looked like in the restaurant pictures.
Chicken red curry. Was not red! Almost like a can soup colour and consistency. Wasn't red curry at all. You could tell some of the veg looked old.
Chicken satay. Sauce = 1 teaspoon worth. Nil flavour. The chicken on the skewers. Fried/grilled within an inch of its life. SO DRY. SOME BITS HARD AND CRUSTY. like it had been sitting for ages.
Will not recommend nor return. That was $70 100%...
