I will start by saying that the food at this establishment was excellent, and it is a beautiful restaurant. I would say, however, that it is probably advisable to have a reservation. My wife and I did not have one, but based upon my research, I thought it was an interesting place with a nice menu, which it is. Since we didn’t have a reservation, we went between peak hours, at about three o’clock in the afternoon. The restaurant was empty of customers, yet I immediately sensed that the hostess saw us as an inconvenience. We were given a table and told we had an hour and a half, as though the place would be inundated by a half past four in the afternoon. One hour later, one other party arrived. Read moreAs a globe-trotting food enthusiast, I can’t help but be utterly charmed by my experience at Gasthaus Stainzerbauer in Graz. Nestled beneath historic vaulted ceilings and bathed in the soft glow of candlelit lanterns, this venerable inn exudes rustic warmth and quiet sophistication. Outside, the tranquil courtyard wraps you in greenery and serenity—perfect for a summer lunch. Every dish felt deeply rooted in tradition yet refined by the skill of Chef Wiener: from the sumptuous Styria Beef and tender braised Kalbsbackerl to the delicate Beuschel and beautifully fried Wiener Schnitzel. My favorite was the beef liver, accompanied by horseradish-infused potato mash—bold, comforting, and expertly balanced. Service shines here, with gracious hosts like Josef Pfeifer guiding the evening with elegance and ease. The wine list is staggering in variety and quality, elevating every morsel. Stainzerbauer isn’t just a meal—it’s a heartfelt journey through Styrian culinary heritage. Highly, highly...

The atmosphere in the inner courtyard was relaxing, cozy and beautiful.
Service was impeccable, took note of allergies, helped with our choice of wine and made sure everything was always alright.
