I visited Aufzug Café during my short trip to Vienna and really enjoyed the experience. As a tourist from Spain, I love finding places that feel a bit more local and artsy – and this café definitely had that!
The interior is very cool and quirky, with a kind of “vintage meets student project” vibe. I appreciated the attention to detail and the cozy atmosphere. It’s not your typical touristy spot, which made it feel like a hidden gem.
The staff were polite, although not overly warm – maybe that’s just the Viennese way? 😉 I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk and a small vegan cake – both were tasty and felt homemade. Prices were fair for Vienna, but not cheap.
One small downside: the café is quite small, and when it’s busy, it gets a bit loud and stuffy. Also, if you don’t speak German, the menu might be a bit confusing at first – but the staff helped me out in English, so all good in the end!
All in all, a nice little stop during my day exploring the city. Would recommend it if you want something off the beaten path and a break from all the...
Read moreThis unique idea for a café containing converted elevators seemed almost too good to be true! With (at the time of writing) 70+ reviews, all 5 stars, when combined with no street view images I actually wondered if it was just a showroom or something.
Luckily no, it's definitely a real coffee shop. We popped in for a coffee and croissant before catching a train, and managed to find a table. It can get pretty crowded (with most people wanting a photo in the converted elevators), so I recommend coming at quieter times.
It's worth mentioning that the pastries are smaller than usual (and are priced lower), so get an extra 1 or 2. There are also postcards available by the door, with the interior's consistent theme and the owner(?) committing to the bit by dressing up...
Read moreThe loveliest café ! Really great drinks (we had a matcha latte and a cappuccino) and the crumbly apple dessert we had was delicious ! The owner was so nice and kind, but the best part is definitely the atmosphere, was lucky enough to sit inside one of the elevators and get to feel a bit of the love for them that the owner clearly has, the decoration, lighting and details in the place show that this is a project of love and passion more than anything ! The story of how the place came to be made me so happy and hopeful, and I loved getting the chance to write and send a letter to a friend !!! If your ever in Vienna it's a must for sure, by far one of my favourite cafes I have been to and wish it all the love and...
