We stayed at the Mooons hotel in late November for 4 nights. The hotel is unique but we liked this as it was something a little different to all the usual hotels we normally stay in. ||Our room was small but adequate for our short stay. The decor of the room was lovely, with the moon decor and theme continuing into the room. I particularly liked the round window and seat, although the view wasn’t the best (overlooking the main road and city buildings). The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was modern with a fabulous shower. ||The hotel’s location is conveniently close to all the main public transportation. If you don’t mind walking you can walk to some of the attractions, small Christmas market in the square and one of the palaces. ||The majority of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and polite. ||We ate breakfast at the hotel which was okay, do take note this is a vegan breakfast. Although we are not vegan we still found plenty to eat and it was sufficient enough to put us on for a busy day of sightseeing. ||There is a bar in the lobby area where you can purchase a verity of different alcoholic and cocktail drinks on an evening, although the closing times seemed to be a little inconsistent during our stay, from one night closing at 10:30 to another night staying open to nearly midnight.||Unfortunately the rooftop bar at the hotel is closed during the winter months, which is a shame but there is a few others in the city centre that are open throughout the year. ||The hotel doesn’t really offer evening meal but there is plenty of eateries if you walk towards the centre or catch the tram to the centre. |One Italian we can highly recommend, is a restaurant called Al Borgo. (See our separate review for this restaurant) ||Our main reason for visiting Vienna was for the Christmas markets.|We also did a day trip to Hallstatt, highly recommend and is a beautiful place to visit with breathtaking views. Just to be aware it is a long day nearly 12 hrs but well worth it. It did snow when we visited so made the trip even more magical. |We also went to watch the Spanish Horse show and had a tour of the stables, again highly recommend if you get the opportunity to go and see them. |A visit to the top of St Stephen’s Cathedral is worth a visit as well. ||This was our first trip to Vienna, it's a beautiful city with so much to see and do. We would highly recommend visiting, maybe one day we will return.||(Yes, its now July and we visited back in November 2024, but we had such a lovely time it would be a shame not to share our wonderful...
Read moreWe booked another hotel months ago and arrived there in the evening. The hotel was so unsafe and awful that we went online and booked the Mooons hotel.
We left the original hotel at 9am and made our way to Moons. Its very easy to locate and close to main train station, local trams and buses. With check-in beginning at 3pm we hoped to store our luggage and return at 3pm. Instead we were greeted by friendly informative reception staff who said our room was ready! So we got our room keys, maps and zoomed up to our room. The entire hotel felt clean and safe. Our room was climate controlled so no opening windows with insects or noise. The bathroom was supplied with shampoo, shower gel, hand soap, hand lotion and plush towels. There was a box of mini items like Qtips, makeup sponges, etc. The shower has a ceiling rain shower and a shower wand with great pressure and heat. There was a mini refrigerator, a complimentary glass bottle of water and glasses. A tea kettle with lots of teas, sugars, etc.
The closet was good sized and held the safe which was in great condition, an iron and ironing board.
The lighting in the room was nice as you had options to have full light, mood light and mini nightstand lights. The large round window was gorgeous with a breathtaking view of the city and suburbs. The bed was comfortable and had 2 pillows and 1 decorative pillow per person. I love that Moons features sustainable and organic products and food. For the breakfast we enjoyed it as there were many fresh options. Lots of seating and stations so no long single lines to get food. Note it is a vegetarian buffet with egg frittata, boiled egg and scrambled eggs for protein. However, at check-in reception we were told that if we should want cold cuts simply request from the breakfast staff and they will bring a charcuterie to you no extra charge. Nice! There is a rooftop terrace with bar but, it was cold and a bit windy so we did not visit but many guests we spoke with loved it.
At check out at noon we still had 2 hours till our train departure and the Moons staff was happy to store our luggage for us. They give you a card key to identify your luggage so no stress. Overall Moons is safe, multilingual, friendly, clean, close to transit and beautiful. Next time we go to Vienna we will remember the...
Read moreStayed at Mooons for 4 nights April 22-26. The hotel is in an excellent location across from the main train station (the station is very clean and modern with tons of shops, multiple grocery stores and many restaurants) there is a metro stop and multiple tram lines within two blocks. Although the hotel may seem a bit far away from the action when you look at a map, in Vienna the transit options are so good you can get anywhere in the City without much hassle. Don't let the location worry you at all, you can get right downtown in a couple stops on the Metro - I was very pleasantly surprised how quick and easy it was. The train station isn't sketchy either, it's feels more like a shopping mall. I felt very safe. ||This hotel is fun! It's dark, sexy and yes...moon themed. My room had a large round window you can sit awkwardly in, a large very soft bed (I think it was a king?) a small writing desk, fridge, safe, a small wardrobe for clothes storage, iron/ironing board and bathroom (with a small shower - no tub). The hotel provided bottled water, coffee, a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash, towels and body lotion, but no facecloths. Although the room was small, I really loved the modern style and cool vibe. It was also super clean and quiet. They also embrace technology for check-in/check out where you do it all yourself on an Ipad. It was easy to figure out. ||I opted to have breakfast included, but it's important to note that it's vegan. No complaints about that though - there was a lot of variety of eggs, vegetables, yogurts, cheeses, breads/pastries, tea, cereal, juices and coffee. It was very nice and efficiently run with lots of seating - you can even eat your breakfast outside on a patio when the weather is nice. ||There is a good bar in the lobby with lots of great food/drink options and I saw there was a rooftop bar too, but unfortunately it wasn't open for the season yet; too bad, I would have really enjoyed that! ||Overall, I would recommend Mooons with no hesitation, it's fun and in a great location....
