On a recent visit to Böhmerwd, I was reminded why this spot has been a go-to for me over the past few years. Specializing in Slovakian cuisine with a variety of European dishes on the menu, it’s a delightful blend of traditional and familiar flavors.
The atmosphere is rustic, with a warm, old-fashioned interior featuring lots of wood elements that give it a charming, homey feel. However, during the summer months, the lack of air conditioning is noticeable, as the regular fans do little to cool the space effectively. Still, the cozy ambiance makes it a great place for casual meals, especially during cooler seasons.
The food is the highlight here—always fresh and delicious, with a taste that feels like it’s been made with real passion. From Slovakian specialties to European classics, the dishes are hearty and flavorful. The quick service means you won’t be waiting long for your meal, and the portions are satisfying without being overwhelming.
Service has consistently been professional, with the staff speaking multiple languages and being both efficient and friendly. They’re attentive without being overbearing, making for a smooth dining experience.
Prices are reasonable for the quality and variety of food offered, making it a spot I regularly recommend. If you visit in summer, be prepared for the warm interior, but overall, Böhmerwald delivers a consistently enjoyable dining experience that won’t disappoint.
Update: I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years. I’ve spent a lot of money here and always left feeling happy and respected, until my last visit.
This time, after a nice dinner, I paid 60€ for a 57€ bill and thanked the waitress. Instead of just accepting it, she looked at me and asked if I wanted to leave 10% tip, as if the 3€ I already added wasn’t enough.
I was shocked. I just looked her in the eyes and calmly repeated: “60€,” making it clear that I had nothing more to add.
But she didn’t stop. She didn’t even take the money. She asked again, this time with a fake sweet face, like she was innocent, but still pushing for more. It felt like begging.
Honestly, after all the times I’ve come here and the hundreds of euros I’ve spent, this felt incredibly disrespectful. I didn’t expect this kind of behavior from a place I used to really appreciate.
Out of frustration and anger, I threw another 15€ next to the 60 and walked away.
It was a really unpleasant ending to an evening that should have been enjoyable. A big disappointment. After this experience, I’ve decided I will never return to this place again. Thank you dear Waitress with...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Bohemewald in Austria for 3 consecutive nights, and I must say that the traditional Austrian food I experienced there was absolutely fantastic!
I have to mention the Gulash I had at one of the local restaurants. It was a hearty and flavorful dish that warmed my soul. The tender meat, rich sauce were divine.
Another highlight of my visit was indulging in the famous Sachertorte. This Viennese chocolate cake is renowned worldwide, and Bohemewald certainly lived up to the reputation. The Sachertorte I savored was moist, decadent, and had the perfect balance of sweetness.
No trip to Austria would be complete without trying Schnitzel, and Bohemewald did not disappoint. I had the pleasure of sampling some of the best Schnitzels I've ever tasted. The golden, crispy breading and the tender meat inside were a match!
The ambiance in the local eateries was charming, with traditional decor and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly, and eager to recommend local specialties.
In conclusion, my 3-night visit to Bohemewald, Austria was a culinary adventure I will never forget. The traditional Austrian food, including the exceptional Gulash, Sachertorte, and Schnitzel, surpassed my expectations. If you're a food enthusiast or simply looking to immerse yourself in authentic Austrian flavors, I highly recommend paying a visit...
Read moreWe really loved the food here—it was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was great too. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress didn’t bring the bill for more than 25 minutes, and the issue wasn’t just the delay but the lack of communication. She never explained that there was a holdup; instead, she continued serving other tables while we (and several others) waited and waited. Eventually, many of us had to get up and go to the register. When we did, she snapped at us, saying we had to sit down and wait. We would have completely understood if she had just explained earlier, but being yelled at after an otherwise lovely evening really spoiled the experience. When we finally paid, she smirked and dismissed us with a “here you can go” which felt disrespectful in the manner she did it. I also overheard another table having the same issue—again, the problem was a lack of communication. I want to be clear: the food is excellent, and this restaurant has a lot going for it. But the service needs attention. Simple courtesy and communication would go a long way in ensuring the experience matches the quality...
