CHEATING THE TOURISTS !!!!!!

Me and my family went on Friday 4th January for having Lunch due to opinions.

We speak English and the young 30 years old waiter too.

Firstly he gave us 2 English menus cards without the pages for special menus and prices from monday to friday (excluded in English menús). Then, I pick up the austrian menu card from the closest table. Then I could order the menus I wanted (as you can see in the pictures with a Red line in the middle).

Secondly, the total bill was 32 and the waiter told me 36 euros without giving us a ticket, only spoken. We saw se eral austrian people close that gave all of them, the ticket.

After I payed 36 euros spoken by him, I realized he told us 4 euros more. I asked him please to give us the ticket. He gave us the ticket writting by his hand 10% tips and obviusly higher than total price.

He said everybody in the restaurant pays tips. I asked if austrian too, and he said: yes, everybody. Then I showed him the ticket there was the table near to us of austrian people that has just leave. His face changed automatically for sad.

Then he said the tips are only for over 30 euros bills. I told him smartly that he had asked us and extra price that he wouldnt do that.

Then he returned us the extra charged quantity and he went away.

You can see the ticket with his handwritting in the attached pictures.

It is not fear to CHEATING THE TOURISTS. Waiter, your work depends on the people you attend, including tourist people.

I hope your boss will tell you something to avoid repeating again, but the way he performanced was because he used to do...

starting at 19:00, cafe votiv has a special for sachertorte and cappucino for 7.50 euros. this was one of the lower prices that we were able to find in the vienna area. decaf cappucino is available which was really great since we are sensitive to caffeine at night.

indoor and outdoor seating. seems to popular among university students. service was a bit slow to get our check but friendly.

the sachertorte was the better slice out of the two we tried in vienna. the cake itself was chocolate flavored with the strong flavor of apricot in the middle. it came with whipped cream and the cake itself was also not too sweet. the whipped cream helps with the dryness of the cake, though votiv's cake was not the driest we tried (the other place we tried had a hard chocolate top, was quite dry, and the cake did not taste like chocolate.

the cappucino was good, and overall we were satisfied with the combo...

food was decent but the service or rather the server was horrible. Very cold, impatient and irritable. I was actually shocked at how disrespectful she was. we went in for breakfast and had a few questions about the menu. Should have taken it as a sign when she seemed to get annoyed that we were asking questions about certain dishes. On person in our party asked for his eggs to be well done (fried hard) rather than sunny side up. She couldnt understand what he meant by that.. so we tried to figure out how to explain it to deal with the loss in translation .. rather than seek to understand the request she started to become irate saying over and over the eggs are cooked. So again we tried to find other ways to say it plainly ... rather than listen she spoke over us saying "I DONT UNDERSTAND YOU!" and walked away.

needless to say we never came back and I definitely do...

The waiter was very friendly and took great care explaining the menu in English to us. He also made some jokes which pleased the teenagers in our company a lot. We had the pleasure to have dinner on the lovely terrace, situated under a stone archway. The adults enjoyed a spritz, while the children had some juice. The blankets offered are a nice touch for chilly evenings. The food was fine, but to be honest not really memorable. Café Votiv serves traditional Austrian cuisine with little frills. The prices are very reasonable. Would return, but rather for the atmosphere and the aperitif than the food.
