Vienna Christmas Market walking — Local services in Vienna

I came to see this Christmas market. This was a beautiful market with lots of food stalls and items to purchase gifts. There is plenty of sweet wine to be found nearly everywhere. There were also sausages and sweets, cookies, and more. There are vendors there selling wooden craft items, lace tablecloths, jewelry, ornaments, and so much more. This Christmas market can get very busy but this was the nicer of the two that I went to in Vienna. Following advice from a local, we came here because they said the other one was packed with too many tourists, while this one has tourists and locals alike. I did find this one to be easier to walk around, still large crowds, but more space to walk...

One of the largest Christmas markets we've been to in Vienna so far. It's right in front of the gorgeous city hall, which offers quite an awesome background, together with the Christmas lights. They say it has over 150 stalls, offering the traditional Christmas food, drinks and decorations. As with other markets, I still feel the prices are a bit steep for a tourist, but you just can't help yourself not getting a pretzel at least.

Wir waren am Wochenende auf dem Christkindlmarkt am Rathausplatz und fanden ihn wirklich sehr schön. Der Markt ist nicht zu groß und nicht zu klein, die Stände sind gut aufgeteilt – mit viel Auswahl an Kunsthandwerk, Essen und verschiedensten Punschsorten.

Besonders gefallen hat uns die kleine Eislaufbahn, die auch zum Zuschauen Spaß macht. Vor allem mit dem beleuchteten Rathaus im Hintergrund ist das eine richtig schöne Kulisse. Wir haben uns Glühwein und einen Langos geholt – beides war geschmacklich top. Preislich ist es natürlich etwas höher, aber für so einen zentralen Weihnachtsmarkt noch im Rahmen.

Was uns allerdings gestört hat: Es gab keine Stehtische. Man bekam seinen Glühwein, aber wusste danach nicht so recht wohin. Man stand irgendwo im Gedränge oder lief herum – gemütlich war das nicht. Von anderen Christkindlmärkten kennt man es anders.

Trotzdem ist der Markt insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert – stimmungsvoll, weihnachtlich kitschig und mit viel Liebe gestaltet. Ein Besuch lohnt sich...
