I recently visited Das vivet with a group of friends for breakfast, and overall, it was a mixed experience. We ordered two identical breakfasts and tried different coffees, with adding both plant-based and regular milk options, as well as Flatwhite. Let's start with the positives. The atmosphere of Das vivet was fantastic. The ambiance was welcoming, and the overall vibe of the place was enjoyable. It provided a pleasant setting for our breakfast gathering, which was appreciated by all of us. Moving on to the food, the breakfasts we ordered were decent. While they weren't outstanding, they certainly had their merits. The flavors were satisfactory, but there was room for improvement. Some additional seasoning or unique twists could have elevated the taste to a more memorable level. However, there were a couple of notable issues. Firstly, the poached egg in both breakfasts did not spread as it should have. It's disappointing when an essential element of a breakfast dish falls short, especially when it affects the overall enjoyment of the meal. We were expecting the yolk to be lusciously runny, but instead, it was more solidified. Additionally, the smoked salmon in the breakfasts was overpowering. While some customers might enjoy it, but we were hoping for a more delicate and nuanced salmon experience. Regarding the coffee selection, the plant-based and regular milk options were appreciated. It's always great to have variety and cater to different dietary preferences. However, the coffees themselves didn't leave a lasting impression. While they were decent, they lacked that wow factor that would make us want to come back specifically...
Read moreFood was good and came quickly. The atmosphere at Sunday brunch was lively and rather noisy. It was crowded but not bothersome. Our server was nice but we has a surprisingly negative experience. I ordered a cappuccino which was rather slow in coming. When it arrived it was lukewarm. I asked the server if they could pleasemake it hot. She seemed a bit surprised but took the coffee away. A few minutes later a manager approached our table and asked brusquely what we had complained about. When I said my coffee wasn’t hot and I asked it to be made hot she asked “just how do you expect me to do that?” Surprised by the tone I said I didn’t know - maybe re-steam it?” She scoffed and began lecturing me on how they can’t do that and they’d have to make another coffee. I was honestly shocked by the rude manner. I just replied “ ok” she left and minutes later ANOTHER manager ( I presume) came over and also began pushing back on my request telling me they make their coffee a specific way and any hotter I’d burn myself etc. I noted the coffee I got wasn’y hot it was lukewarm but i I had literally never had such difficulty in a restaurant and just leave it. Our party was completely non plussed by the defensive, hostile reaction. Eventually I got a ( hot) replacement coffee ( which by the way the restaurant charged us for in addition to the original undrinkable coffee). The female manager remained fairly rude throughout, when she served us. It was really unpleasant. There are just too many great restaurants in Vienna to put up with this unprofessional and unpleasant treatment. Good food but I won’t return and will not recommend to friends...
Read moreGood food but staff is not going the extra mile.
While the food at the Vivet is generally good and they offer a decent range of gluten-free options, the customer service leaves much to be desired.
I've visited the Vivet three times and the food has usually been delicious. However, during my last visit, I was served pancakes with completely burned bottoms. It's perplexing why such a dish would be served to a customer – surely, the cook must have noticed. It took another 30 minutes to receive a new batch of pancakes, which was frustrating, but I understand mistakes can happen.
What concerns me more is their attitude towards customers with food intolerances. I have Histamine Intolerance and asked the waiter if I could replace some ingredients in my juice. His reacted very annoyed, and he initially refused, saying that they wouldn't clean the juice maker for me. After explaining that traces don't matter with my Histamine Intolerance, he reluctantly agreed, but the entire interaction was unpleasant. This isn't the first time I've experienced such an attitude at the Vivet, which is particularly disappointing given their reputation for catering to people with food intolerances.
Because of the consistently unfriendly service, I'm reconsidering whether I want to return to the Vivet, despite their good food and gluten-free options. Customer service is a crucial aspect of dining out, and the Vivet needs significant improvement...
