MOZAIK Cafe & Restaurant Vienna — Restaurant in Vienna

Sunday finds many restaurants closed in Vienna, especially in smaller neighborhoods outside of the downtown district. with web help we found this place. a short walk from our hotel that had a menu of items up our alley. salads, pastas, Austrian dishes, pizza, etc. only one other table occupied in the sidewalk dining area and none inside the too hot seating there. our server was a very personable and helpful young man answering all our questions with ease. my DW chose her usual fave, pasta bolognese. she enjoyed it very much. I was craving some veggies or greens but also something light so I chose a cucumber, tomato, and onion salad-similar to a Greek, hold the feta-with grilled chicken strips. We had seen entrees come to the other occupied table so we had an idea of the portion sizes served but when ours came it was wow. my salad was a large plate covered with bright chunks of tomato and cukes, with red onion and also some unlisted green peppers. No problem there. Then on top were about a dozen at least thin strips of freshly grilled chicken breast, clearly hand cut from an actual breast before cooking. The dressing was light but with a nice herbaceous note again similar to a typical Greek salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly. We searched restaurants nearby from google maps, when coming from the amusement park Prater. Mozaik had more than four stars and good reviews, the menu seemed versitile yet still the prices were pretty decent.

The street seemed very quiet, not much people around. O-ou, a bad sign?

Fortunately, the fear was 100 % unnecessary. The waiters were waiting at the door, happy and ready to serve. But still not trying too much. The service was very friendly and chill. Beer from the tap was nicely cool and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. And the food crossed all of our expectations! Our group ate pizza x 3 and salmon with grilled vegetables x 1. Everything was delicious and full of flavour! Also a big bonus: Other restaurants in Vienna may have hidden fees (service fees etc.) but this place didn't charge anything extra; just what we ordered.

I use Google Maps rating as my main source to choose restaurants during my trips, and most times it is really successful. However, I cannot explain the high rating for Mozaik.

We already felt strange that the restaurant had almost no customers at 6pm on a Friday evening. Maybe too early? We still decided to give it a try. We ordered two types of Schnitzel and a pork medallion, with some drinks.

The portions were quite generous and the food was good, but nothing extraordinary. The price for the entire meal was above average of what I have been paying during this trip. We were unable to tip as their credit card machine was broken and only took cash, which we needed for Prater.

Overall, I would give 3-4 stars if I consider price to quality ratio, but I decided for a 4 as the waiter was friendly and waiting...
