Honest review: Food was just okay, for the price you could get much better (even just 2 streets down). Service was so so. They charged for tap water and did not clarify before that they would...at the end, the waiter serving us promptly added 20% gratuity to each bill. I would have to say they did not deserve any gratuity at all. We are out in Vienna, Salzburg, Halstatt, Bratislava for 2 weeks and this was the only place that stood out as very poor. Weird there is such a discrepancy in reviews, from mainly 5 stars and then lots of 1 stars. Reading between the lines..I don't think they treat tourists very well l, which is a shame. 2 stars.. as the food redeemed it from one star..but in summary, avoid.
Edit, in reply to the owner. I am a verified google reviewer and almost NEVER give bad reviews. I stand by the fact this is our experience of your restaurant. Our friends can also attest to what happened. Perhaps this is not something you do everytime and only to tourists, but what is fair is fair. You took the bill total up from 17 Euros to 20 Euros (exactly 18%) that is on top of the listed prices on your menu (there is no where to state that tax is excluded in the price). We waited to review your place because we wanted to see if anywhere else in Austria is the same..and it wasnt. As mentioned before, for the service, I do not think a single cent should've been given for gratuity with the level of "service". Now you are threatening to take legal action. Please do as you will only expose your self. I would suggest learning from this and treating tourists better next time. Because of your reply, have downgraded you from 2 to 1 stars.. To be honest we expected as much judging our experience. Auf...
Read moreI can’t rate anything other than service as we were treated very rudely so we decided to leave. My family of 4 came here around 7, saw an empty table outside with no reserved sign or anything, also no one to meet us so we just sat wanting to order a beer and something sweet. Firstly a man came to us and started giving us menus, not even asking if we want to eat or drink at all. He spoke to us in German and the menu is predominantly in German, especially the drinks part which doesn’t have translations. After we decided we want to have 4 drinks and one meal for my sister and me to share, we called the waitor. He insisted we order drinks first and then food, kind of rudely in the start. When I said I want a small beer, 0.2, he started frowning at me and I was feeling uncomfortable, told me I was a big girl to have this small beer. When I said we want only one plate to share that’s when he started being openly rude. He said we TOOK the big table(it was a wooden table for 4 people) without asking anyone and now we order only 4 drinks and one plate, and was repeating that twice. At first I thought it was a joke, as I was shocked at the eay he was treating us. When I realised he was being serious we just got up and went away. It is my last day in Vienna and I try not to make this ruin things for me but it was a very...
Read moreCame here around 8:30 on a Saturday night with a friend. It shouldn’t matter, but I’m African American, she is Asian. We were very excited to try their schnitzel and authentic Austrian food.
Upon entering, the restaurant was busy but there were still several tables available. The host asked if we had a reservation (we did not) and immediately informed us, with his apologies but briskly, that they were completely booked for that evening.
It’s Saturday night, that’s understandable, and if I had less life experience, I would have walked away with less unease—but something in my subconscious told me “he’s lying to you”.
We ventured back out into the wind and cold and walked a short distance away and were seated immediately at Mozaik Cafe, even though they were quite busy too, and had a lovely meal.
As I ate, the earlier situation kept bothering me—the restaurant is close to Prater but was filled with only white Austrians on such a busy evening. That’s when I decided to go peak through the window again around 10pm sharp, (they close at 11pm).
See for yourself how fully booked they are. Draw your own conclusions if this is the sort of business you’d like to support. Kudos to the host...
