Hello, I would like to share honest feedback about our visit to your restaurant yesterday.
The ambiance and the food were fantastic — the seafood dishes were excellent, and your wine selection was truly impressive. However, several issues unfortunately took away from the overall experience.
First, we found hairs in the bread — not once, but on two separate plates. We informed the waiter, who simply threw the bread away in front of us - which is good, I guess. That was quite surprising and disappointing, especially in a restaurant of this level.
Second, the cocktails — the drink selection was also quite limited. And if the choices are few, then at the very least, the available options should be made to perfection. Honestly, I don’t understand how such simple cocktails — like the Weißer Spritzer and Aperol — could be done so poorly. These are basic, easy-to-make drinks, which is why expectations for their quality are even higher.
Also, the oyster selection was limited to just one type, priced at 9€ per piece. For a high-end seafood place, a broader selection would have been appreciated.
Finally, we were not informed that service charge (TIP) was already included in the bill. We tipped generously, unaware that it had already been added. A simple heads-up from the staff would have been the fair and transparent thing to do.
In summary, the food and wine were great, but the service and drinks could be significantly improved. Small things like hairs in the food and lackluster cocktails can unfortunately spoil an otherwise pleasant...
Read moreI visited this restaurant for lunch recently, and, unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. The place was still undergoing renovations, with workers constantly walking past our table and working in the room next to us, which made for a less-than-relaxing atmosphere.
Despite there being only three occupied tables, we had to wait an unusually long time just to order drinks. When we politely asked the restaurant manager, he simply waved it off, saying the waiter would be over soon, even though he was just a step away from the bar and could have easily helped. When the starters finally arrived, we found the boquerones to be tasty, but they came on a bed of mayonnaise, which isn’t to everyone's taste. The fries weren’t homemade, and the sangria had a strangely artificial taste, though I appreciated the addition of fresh fruit.
The main courses were even more disappointing. We ordered a paella for two and a T-bone steak. The paella had a light bitter taste, and the seafood was dry, leaving us unable to finish it. When asked to provide feedback on how they could improve, I did my best to explain that the dish was too dry and had an odd bitter taste, but it’s really not a diner’s responsibility to provide culinary advice. The steak was just average, and none of us finished our meals despite being hungry.
To top it all off, we all left feeling slightly nauseous and uncomfortable, which made the whole experience even more disappointing. Safe to say, we won’t be...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing dining experience at Otto Will Meer, Shortly on arriving, the server took our drink and food orders without issue, and the food itself was good—not incredible, but tasty.
From there, the service fell off a cliff. We were never checked on—not once. No one came by to ask how our starters were, how we were enjoying our mains, or even to offer us water. In fact, we were never given water until we flagged someone down and specifically asked for it. For a restaurant at this price point, we were very disappointed.
There were two full-time waiters working in a restaurant with just three occupied tables, and yet one of them spent nearly the entire time standing behind us chatting with a neighboring table. That same table also had a small dog that barked throughout our meal, with its owners seemingly encouraging it.
We had to ask twice for the bill—both times flagging someone down—and it still felt like a struggle to be noticed. At no point during the evening did we feel looked after or welcomed. We felt like we were being tolerated rather than hosted.
This would be disappointing at any venue, but at a place that markets itself as a high-end seafood restaurant, it was really disappointing. We've lived in the 2nd District for two years, following the restaurant through its renovations, and were genuinely excited to try Otto Will Meer.
We won’t be returning, and we unfortunately won’t be recommending...
