A "Cruise" in Name Only – More Like a Very Slow Floating Café.

If your dream is to embark on a grand voyage along Vienna’s iconic Danube River, allow me to temper your expectations. This so-called "Blue Danube City Cruise" does not, in fact, cruise the Danube at all, but rather its significantly less scenic sibling, the Danube Canal—a waterway so uninspiring that even the ship itself seems to lose enthusiasm, turning around at what feels like a completely arbitrary location.

The views? Prepare yourself for an unbroken panorama of bridges, graffiti, industrial zones, and unremarkable residential complexes that could generously be described as "urban." If you're hoping for iconic Viennese sights, you won't find them here—unless, of course, your bucket list includes uninspired concrete structures and the occasional seagull who looks just as confused to be there as you are.

For 75 long minutes, the cruise inches along at a pace that makes walking seem thrilling. The most engaging activity? Watching diners on board try to balance their drinks as the ship makes its leisurely U-turn. Speaking of which, if you enjoy sitting on a boat, eating and drinking while the scenery does its best to lull you into a state of existential contemplation, this may be the tour for you.

On a positive note, the staff is polite, friendly, and genuinely trying their best. If only the route were as delightful as they are.

Final verdict? If you’re an avid collector of disappointments, this might just be your crown jewel. Otherwise, Vienna has far better ways to spend your time.

city cruise along the Danube River in Vienna offers a delightful and unique perspective on this enchanting city. As the gentle waters carry you along, you'll be treated to breathtaking views, iconic landmarks, and a relaxing escape from the bustling streets. I recently embarked on a city cruise in Vienna, and it proved to be a memorable and enjoyable experience.

The Danube River itself is a mesmerizing waterway, and sailing along its gentle currents provides a sense of tranquility. The cruise offers a refreshing change of pace from traditional sightseeing, allowing you to sit back, relax, and take in the beautiful surroundings. The onboard commentary provides interesting historical and cultural insights, enriching the experience and deepening your understanding of Vienna's rich heritage.

One of the highlights of the city cruise is the stunning panorama of Vienna's skyline. As the boat glides along the river, you'll be treated to magnificent views of iconic landmarks such as the majestic St. Stephen's Cathedral, the impressive Vienna Ring Tower, and the picturesque Prater Park. The unique vantage point from the water offers a fresh perspective and allows you to appreciate the city's architectural splendor from a different angle.

The boat itself is comfortable and well-equipped, with spacious seating areas both indoors and outdoors. Whether you choose to enjoy the open-air deck for unobstructed views or prefer the sheltered cabin, you'll find ample space to relax and soak in the atmosphere. The friendly and attentive staff on board ensure a pleasant experience, providing excellent service and answering any questions...

Not worth the money in my opinion. If you like river cruises you might like it, but I do them in every city I visit to see the city from the water. There is not a ton to see from the water in Vienna so the view is mostly of graffiti covered walkways, some shoreline parks, and the modern Vienna side. Also incredibly difficult to hear the guide so I wasn't even sure what we were passing sometimes. Sorry but this one is a no for me. If it sounds fun to you go for it, but I would not recommend this for my travel friends based on the lack of interesting views and commentary. Additionally, booking online was a nightmare and I am 95% sure they never gave my refund for my first booking I made when I misread the confusing schedule and then emailed to follow up about it. They told me to just book the one I actually wanted and they would refund me the other tickets for the first cruise. I booked the new tickets, but I'm pretty sure I never got the refund for the old ones. Now, that was my mistake for booking the wrong one so I take responsibility for that and I'm not even mad considering this was months ago so I'm not looking for the money now. I just highly recommend being extremely careful if you book online as the locations for pick up and drop off are a bit understated in the fine print which can lead to misunderstandings. So the confusing booking website alone would've bagged 4 stars with a warning to be careful but that combined with the actual experience being quite lackluster for the price and I'm...

When in city with big river you should explore it by boat as you will have different perspective on the city. I have to admit that I did it because it was included in Vienna Pass. And it was nice experience but I was rather disappointed that it was not the one advertised on the Vienna pass map all around island but it was still interesting with some peculiar buildings further from the city center and we had to return as river was closed further on in that direction. Blue Danube is nice boat with restaurant and lots of space. I took nice place on the front but unfortunately some very loud annoying French group came and it was hard to understand what was said in German and English. It is good that I do not understand lot of French but they did not have to leave France to discuss some very funny topics for them at least (used to impress girls apparently). I had option to move from there but I decided to ignore them. There are other cruises offered by company and for me is interesting one going to Bratislava with fancy new boat but I did not have time for that. And I was afraid that loud French group of 4 will join me again! I agree with other reviewers that it is too expensive and not so interesting like one in Berlin for example. But on the other hand, I you are walking whole day it is nice to sit and relax for one hour and view is nice as the pictures will show. I would recommend it for Vienna pass holders and only ones for several days.

We didn't prebook the cruise, as it wasn't possible to on the difficult-to-navigate website. We got a discount by using our Vienna City Cards. We got to the departure point catching a bus near Stephansplatz. There is a really nice cafe at the terminal and we enjoyed a coffee in the sunshine before we boarded. We booked the A+B cruise, as I'd read the shorter cruise just did the more industrial part of the Donaukanal. There was little to no commentary - but that's because there was little to nothing worth commentating on. They opened up the top deck of the boat only after we had passed under the lower bridges as there wouldn't have been clearance otherwise. Table service meant people were kept supplied with drinks, snacks and food as required. The locks were interesting - but they were the only interesting bits. Some explanations on the video screens of how these large locks operate would have been good. The only plus point - we can say we've cruised on the Danube. The whole experience was rather boring from start to finish.
