Went out of our way to come here because of its good reviews. Unfortunately, I should have read more of them. I think the one review that said "the male waiter just looked annoyed that we were there" summed it up perfectly. Walking in at 6pm, the restaurant was pretty empty with about 5 tables. We were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, and was met with a scowl. Tried to overlook this as maybe some people just don't have a face suitable for the service industry. However, the service just went from bad to worse. The service was fast, I'll give you that... however, somehow the veal schnitzel was barely warm. Definately not freshly made. And I'm not sure if there's a different level of service for tourists but the portion of schnitzel we got barely filled half a plate. Definately not like the the portions we saw on other plates walking in. Initally we thought that maybe other people just ordered a double portion? But plate after plate coming out looked the same. Seriously wanted to flag down the waiter to ask if they dropped the other piece on the floor before getting it to us. The cabbage salad was fairly bland and limp. And we had intended on dessert but decided to cut our losses and go somewhere else. I world not recommend this restaurant to any tourists. Maybe locals would recieve a warmer welcome but i found this place overpriced for the amount we got and the service poor and unwelcoming. They also charge for tap water. It's possible locals just don't drink tap water here? Either that or they are trying to upsell tourists (as I did see a local given a pitcher of tap water... wonder if he got charged for that ?) If your you're a tourist, save yourself some grief and just avoid this place. Not worth ruining a vacation dinner...
Read moreThis place is an experience all in itself. I think we will make it part of each of our travels to Vienna from now on. The food options were exactly the type of Austrian-oriented choices we were hoping for and very well cooked! I was on a "hunt" for a good zahnder fillet for 3 days and after trying options here and there, which were not bad either, I bump into this place which cooks river fish in amazing ways, worthy of a historic Danube city. The vegetables were cooked well yet with a lot of texture left in them, garlicky flavours were nicely present yet not too strong, gulash was spicy but not incredibly hot. In one phrase: everything was perfectly just right! We were a party of 5, 3 generations in there and everyone enjoyed every bite.
And the staff was incredibly friendly: it felt just like visiting older distant aquaintances. We had a chance to practice the little German we know and they were very patient with that although they did speak good English here and there was a French couple beside us and they could talk to them too. The restaurant was very child-friendly too.
While I cannot claim I've went to even 1% of Vienna restaurants yet, I can clearly say: this restaurant is the best I have seen here so far and easily ranks top 5 in my overall experience so far. Will definitely recommend as an experience to all friends...
Read moreVery nice traditional restaurant. Open everyday and kitchen is operating full day. Food is very tasty as well. We went there twice and had a good experience. Although on our last visit we ordered our food and one of our friends decided to change his order. We went up to the waiter again, only two minutes after giving up our order, asking if we could change it. The waitress, young blonde, told us “I already typed it into the computer”. That response was very weird, because everyone knows you can still change the orders on the computer. In my opinion the response was arrogant. I mean we only asked to change one single dish and not 5, so not sure what the...
