At the edge of the beautiful Sobieskiplatz, this Gasthaus could not be better located, at the heart of the 9th district but with the comforting atmosphere of a vibrant village. For this reason only, you might want to come and take a break from a long day here. However, I would rather recommend you bring your own drink and snacks with you and seat on one of the benches surrounding the paved plaza. Indeed, my several experiences in Highlander have always involved extremely poor service and mediocre food. The house beer is decent, although not special in any sense. During our last visit, we were lucky to witness an operette performance on the plaza, as part of the viennese Kultursommer program. She initially wanted to charge for the meal not consumed. I have been to hundreds of restaurants across the world and when an incident like this get notified (which could happen when salads are bought fresh), a professional staff apologizes first, then proposes to redo the plate or offer an alternative one. insects in food can trigger visits from hygiene services, therefore such incidents must be seriously...
Read moreWe came to eat here with a group of 28 people before attending a show at the Volksoper. The communication beforehand about the reservation was smooth. I requested that we finished before 18:30 as we had to attend the opera and this was no problem. The Highlander called me on the day of the reservation to ask if we wanted to dine inside or outside which was very kind. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful and ensured we all ate on time. The food was good and the ambiance of the place inside as well as outside is very inviting. Really good experience dining here with such a big group. Definitely...
