UPDATE 2024: Alles wieder fast auf demselben Niveau wie bei der Eröffnung. Fries frisch, bun frisch, Burger generell einer der besten in der Stadt.
UPDATE 2023 with 3 stars: Burger bun is dry. They have too many orders, hence the quality sufferd a lot. I doesn't taste as good as it used to. The fries were an abomination last time I ate; the last broken bits from the bottom soaked with oil (see pic). It's definitely not the best burger in town anymore.
Review 2021 with 5 stars: This is definitely the new best burger in town (for me). Super high quality dry aged meat and you get at least 200g of it (2 patties). It's a smash burger so the meat is nicely caramelised, but not dry. The bun is amazingly fresh and the taste is sublime. They've got only 1 item on the menu and 3-4 kinds of drinks. They say their menu isn't very democratic :) You get in and say how many burgers you want and that's it. The only (super high level 1st world) complain I have, is that the burger is (for my taste) a bit bitter in the middle where there are too many mustard kernels. Next time I will order it with a bit less mustard and problem solved :) The price of 11.9€ is really high, but when you consider you get a really big burger, with 2 patties of dry aged beef and it's better than any other burger in town (that I ate), it's definitely worth the money. I will just mention the ridiculous cheeseburger for 12.5€ at FIVE GUYS in the 1st district, which is a huge joke. It reminds a bit of the burger in Weinschenke, but it's better. I'm a big burger fan and I ate a lot of them around the world and believe me when I say this is a really special burger. I recommend it so much and thank you guys for bringing this...
Read moreOne of the best burgers ive had. Smash burgers aren’t that common in Europe so it was very refreshing to see XO Grill doing them in Vienna.
The Location was nicely decorated and had a great, slightly rocky and dingy atmosphere that all great burger joints have. Owner was super welcoming and friendly. We took our order to go and the food was packaged carefully and ecofriendly.
The burger itself was amazing. patty crispy on the rim and nice and juicy in the center. The burger sauce was the perfect condiment, complimenting the flavours but not overshadowing them. The spicy smash burger was even better, adding a bit more flavour.
The dirty fries were also great. perfectly crispy and fluffy on the inside - just how you‘d want them. they could have had more salt and the sauce could have been more flavourful. but these are small nitpicky shortcommings.
I will definitely have to come back for the pie and the pastrami, i‘m very curious.
Although its a bit more on the pricey side, us 3 paying 71€ for lunch, its still definitely worth coming to XO Grill.
Edit: Just tried the pastrami reuben and the NanTan 2 days ago. WOW! I did not expect the Nantan to be my favourite thing from XO Grill, but its intense great indian flavours have impressed me massively - a real treat. The pastrami was very good too, also very large but a tiny bit too greasy for me, still a...
Read moreFinall the permanent location! 🙌 I have been following XO Grill and their famous smash burger ever since the first few days, lucky to have caught the first few stories about a delicious new occurrence. So my history with the beefy delight had me visit the tiny shop in Gumpendorfer Straße, later on Dogenhof, then Cafe Bernhard, back to Dogenhof and now finally, eagerly awaited the long anticipated permanent location in the fifth district.
What can I say, it still is my absolute favorite, untouchable Nr. 1 burger. Nothing has changed and should ever change, the recipe is just perfect. It's beefy, crunchy, juicy, saucy, the pickles, the mustard chaviar... the entire composition.
Trust me, I have been searching for THE burger and ate plentiful, never was I ever this satisfied.
Please do check out the fries as well, dirty if you can, these guys and girls know what's up!
If you do want to sit down and enjoy a beer or two as well, you need to plan in some waiting time - currently it seems it's always well crowded and as far as I know, you can not book a table.
Anyway - long story short, if you are a burger fiend - go there. If you care to taste great burgers but do not eat meat - go for the XO-No Burger (Portobello mushroom ;), if you only have time for one burger in Vienna - go for this one!
Forever and always XO-Grill,...
