PICTURES SHOW: Classic Smash, Fries with Kimchi Sauce & Reuben Sandwich
I admit: I am somewhat of a burger snob. Other than eating burgers all over the planet, I have personally made hundreds myself and I tinker with and tweak my own recipe multiple times a year just to chase that perfect burger high, down to the last little detail. So keep that in mind with what I am about to say.
The primary reason to go to this place was the reuben. I still dream of those big, meaty rye bread sandwiches with the sauerkraut in NYC. That itch needed some European scratching, and boy did the XO Grill here in 1070 not disappoint.
Now, is their stuff as good as some new york corner burger place or deli? Of course not. The bread isn't quite new york rye, the pastrami is great but not excellent, and they could go a bit easier on the cheese and harder on the sauerkraut. But boy are they close, so close in fact, that I happily give them that 4 star rating for the whole experience.
You order at the counter and then take a number to your simple wooden table, and around 15 minutes later for us, while the place was at around half its capacity, we got our burger, fries and reuben sandwich. Now that kimchi sauce on the fries is an absolute chefs kiss. Rarely had such a tasty sauce with fries, tasted brilliant.
The smash burger, their signature dish, is great. It is not quite a five star burger for me personally, and again, I have something of an insane standard when it comes to burgers - but you still get a fantastic burger, made with care, love, a great smash patty and the letters XO burned into the bun.
Overall I wholeheartedly recommend this place if you are in the (very cool btw) neighbourhood and you are tired of your Schnitzels and Kaiserschmarrns - treat yourself to some cheesy, greasy sandwiches made with love and care that absolutely deliver on almost...
Read moreThe food at this establishment offers a truly unique taste, which is a refreshing change from the ordinary dining experience. The distinct flavors are complemented by the high quality of the meat, ensuring that every bite is satisfying and delicious. However, it's important to note that the food is exceptionally heavy. As you savor each mouthful, you might begin to feel the weight of the meal, almost as if you can sense your arteries clogging up with every bite. This heaviness might not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer lighter fare or are health-conscious.
Additionally, the dining experience here is not suited for all occasions. If you’re considering bringing someone on a date, this might not be the ideal spot. The nature of the food means that eating can get quite messy. The dishes are hearty and generously portioned, which can lead to a less-than-elegant eating experience. You might find yourself navigating through sauces and generous servings that require more than just a delicate bite.
Overall, while the food is undoubtedly delicious and offers a distinct experience with high-quality ingredients, it's best enjoyed when you're in the mood for something indulgent and aren't worried about maintaining a tidy appearance. This place is perfect for a casual meal with friends or family, where you can fully appreciate the robust flavors and hearty portions without concern for formality or cleanliness. Just be prepared for a heavy meal...
Read moreFood was great, the staff was polite until one small encounter that occurred with them. The ordering system you use is Chaotic, and I really can't see it working on a busy Saturday evening for example. Half of us got the order the other half kept waiting and waiting, when finally one of us stood up to ask about the order, one of the staff said, I have already brought you the order, and simply didn't admit his mistake, and kept arguing, and when they were finally convinced to prepare it, he brought the plastic plate with the missing order and left it on the table without saying a single word looking like he got insulted by us.
Your ordering system either has to be fully self-service or you need to have some competent staff that can handle your chaotic system (walking around the restaurant with plates looking for table based on a person name) I really don't blame the person who brought the order in a rude manner at the end, knowing he had to deal with this system the whole...
