Bakkerij FUNK — Restaurant in Antwerp

We visited on a Saturday. They do not do soft serve between 11.30am and 2pm, which is why we visited at 3pm and... they were out of all pastries (I thought that they maybe closed at 4pm but they actually close at 10pm).

While I am aware that it might have been an exception (maybe a busier day than usual?), while I understand that a pastry business might have to sell out to avoid wastage and while I know that they make pizza in the evening (and hence maybe stop making pastries early in the day but then they should maybe communicate it clearly online), we were still disappointed that they were already out of pastries at 3pm on a Saturday, when it is so present on their social media feed.

We also struggled to find a non-alcoholic beverages menu, the only one we found was at checkout. You have to order and there's a line of people waiting behind you so you don't really have time to look through the menu. Again, it might have been an exception but it would be nice to have a visible menu that customers can look at while queueing.

However, on a more positive note, service was good and friendly. We had the violet lemonade, which was good. We also had the vanilla, olive oil and sea salt soft serve, it was ok. One of us really liked it and the other found it a little underwhelming.

Overall, our experience was ok but a bit disappointing. Maybe our expectations were too high given the feedback we had had about that place. It would have been better with : a more visible menu and pastries after 3pm (or clear communication on their social media if that is a...

I went to this bakery to grab some lunch and relax, mostly because it had a lot of great five-star reviews as a vegan spot. One thing I didn’t see mentioned much was how busy it gets—there’s a good chance you’ll have to wait in line for about 10 minutes, so be prepared!

That said, the wait is worth it. The drinks are really good, and the baked goods are delicious. They do sell out pretty quickly, which shows how popular they are.

Lovely place for lunch, with fresh products and good value. We enjoyed the burrata toast, salmon toast, and bread and soup. All delicious and the presentation is great. The matcha latte and lemonade were refreshing. We appreciated the fun plates and decoration. Great place to be people watching. They also sold pastries, which we have to come back for. There’s quite a long queue, so be prepared to wait in line, as they do not take reservations.
