They should teach a class on how not to act when a problem/confusion emerges.
We arrived at around 17:40 and ordered a starter, beverages and pastas. I ordered a combo that included my beverage. I had picked the restaurant because I wanted to try the desserts.
By 18:20 we had already eaten our starter (which had had taken some time to arrive, but within reason) and had been expecting our pastas for a long time. I distinctly remember because there was this other restaurant that we had wanted to visit which opened at 18:30 and I told my husband that we could’ve gone there instead, that it opened in ten minutes. I was still excited for the desserts at Bavet but my husband pointed out that, if we ordered them, we’d be out of the restaurant by 21:00.
By 18:27 we asked what was going on, if everything was all right with our pastas. By that time, a few people had come in waaay after us and were already eating their pastas. We were ravenous. A different waiter checked an iPad and told us that my order was already served, but I told him I had only received my iced tea. He told the waitress who took our order.
You’d think either of them would realize that we had been waiting for almost an hour or take our word for it and then bring our pastas ASAP, offer a complimentary coffee/whatever or at least apologize, right? You’d think wrong. She told us that the kitchen was busy and that she had brought us the starter first because the starter comes first in a meal. Thank God she taught us that. I’ve been making a fool of myself for not knowing before.
Listen, I’m no Karen and I have indeed been to restaurants before. At 18:36 my husband and I agreed that, if by 18:45 the pastas had not arrived, we’d cancel them, pay and leave. The pastas arrived a few minutes after we decided that. They were meh, as other reviewers have said.
They clearly had a mixup. That’s fine, things happen. But you apologize, not tell the customer that a...
Read moreBavet is a cozy little restaurant located in the heart of Bruges. The restaurant specializes in serving delicious and hearty bowls of pasta that are made from scratch using high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with rustic decor and dim lighting that creates a cozy and intimate dining experience.
The menu at Bavet offers a wide selection of pasta dishes, including classic favorites like spaghetti carbonara and penne arrabiata, as well as more unique options like truffle mushroom mac and cheese and a spicy sausage. Portions are really generous!
The service at Bavet is excellent, with attentive and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations. The restaurant can get busy during peak hours, but the staff does a great job of keeping things running smoothly. Especially young, dark haired waiter is super nice.
Overall, I highly recommend Bavet for anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying pasta meal in Bruges. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere, high-quality ingredients, and excellent service make it a must-visit destination for...
Read moreThis pasta joint serves you overcooked pasta with sauces that lacks a punch. We ordered the seasonal "the (im)possible bavet" and a spaghetti based on the "hot tomato sauce" 🍅.
Both were severely underwhelming, with overcooked pasta so far from al dente it felt more like mush than 🍝. The bavet was under seasoned and lacked spices. The hot tomato was so mild that the ketchup gave it a run for it's money, it also tasted like the tomato base came from a can and it looked like the parmesan came pre-grated in a bag. There was also plenty of water accumulated in the bottom of the bowl, unfortunately I didn't order a minestrone soup.
The spaghetti seemed like your run of the mill dry pasta from the supermarket, while dry pasta is fine and can be flavorful and delicious you need to treat it right (like your partner), unlike what...
