De Torre — Restaurant in Bruges

The lovely canal-side patio lured us inside as it was too cold to sit outdoors. We were seated beside a lobster tank and its extractor fan, immediately adjacent to the shelves where they place the menus, so the wait staff was grabbing and stacking menus right behind my head all evening. Bizarrely situated table. High prices for very mediocre food. The scampi starter (over €13) sounded good but seemed to be just some defrosted inexpensive supermarket shrimp covered in an unappealing sauce. I have gone to this bar twice over the past few weeks. Just yesterday I had to go retrieve a menu myself with no response from the woman who works there when I asked 'can I have a menu'. Both times it took over 30 minutes to place an order, 20 to receive the order and much more time to pay the bill. There is a 25€ minimum on card which is in extremely small writing on the menu. The staff are also extremely unfriendly especially the woman. This place is a tourist trap due to its location. I would not recommend the place to anybody. Unbelievably poor service. We were being seated when we asked about an open table in the shade. Rather than simply telling us politely that it wasn't available - which would have been fine - the waiter started a tirade about how (abridged) "they get 1000 people passing through every hour and that they needed to save the tables for..." at which point we had to tell him we didn't really need to hear more. So we left before we even sat down. Now we're two door up at the hotel on the corner having a nice meal, served by a nice waiter. Do yourself a favour and walk...
