Bruges Vrije (Liberty of Bruges) is the former court of Bruges and a highlight visit for those with an interesting Flemish history. Opening hours are now 9.30-5pm daily. Entrance is €6 per person and includes audio guide as well as entrance into the remarkable Stadhuis (City Hall) also at Burg Square.

Here you are able to enter the Renaissance style old court room. The single chamber is steeped with historical artworks, furnishing and centuries old decor that is very nice to see and learn about through use of the audio guide as well as the information cards provided at the entrance to the chamber room.

A highlight to Bruges Vrije is the beautiful Charles V chimneypiece. This is a 16th-century masterpiece of Flemish Renaissance. The delicately carved oak chimneypiece with marble and alabaster figures designed by Flemish sculptor and artist Lanceloot Blondeel is remarkable.

Listening to the audio guide, you can conveniently view everything at Bruges Vrije in 20 minutes. Then continue onward with other intended sightseeing. Try to combine your visit here with the mentioned Stadhuis as well as Basilica of the Holy Blood at...
