My wife and I booked our stay at Hotel Jan Brito with our dog for 7 nights because they advertised as a dog friendly hotel. However, we only found out that dogs are not allowed in the all areas of the hotel when we checked in which is uncommon in other pet friendly hotels.

First night in, we found a few broken glass shard in the room which could have been hazardous for our dog. The room also has a moldy smell, ceiling appears to have water leakage, paint is peeling and the furnitures are also not well maintained for a 4-stars establishment. On our checkout day, we were told to pay an additional $105 for cleaning ($15 per day) since we have a dog with us. However we only requested them to clean the room 3 times throughout our stay. The lady who attended to us (whom we believed is the owner Ms Betty) told us this amount is chargeable with or without the cleaning, which seems contradictory to the regulations sheet (see pic) that was provided to us during our check in. We were more than willing to pay that amount however Ms Betty became defensive when we requested her to amend the regulations sheet for future travelers with pets to avoid further miscommunication. Her tone was condescending, unflattering and unnecessary when she mentioned that she will check with a native English speaker before amending it. We really took offense to that. We are from Singapore and English is our first language.

Besides this event, the stay has been pleasant with the friendly kitchen and house keeping staffs whom have far better manners than the owner herself.

Overall, we will not repeat our stay here and will not recommend for...

Stayed for one night which I booked and for which we turned up to the property as we were given a room on the second floor at the back yet the firm told the hotel provider that we didn't show which was not true. Both myself and my elderly mother ( I had a hospital appt) in the city came late. I booked as a late booking but on the premise it was as descriptive of the pictures. Sadly it was not. Our room was second floor in a grey/white building in the garden adjacant to the main building. The decor is tired and old and we accessed the room via a lift in the garden to the second floor for which you have to keep your finger on until you get to the top. The room was okay but bare floor boards and the bath narrow and slippery no bath mat and I nearly slipped. It was fairly clean and had character. The Fridge had one opened bottle of still water and I was also charged taxes which I had paid for in advance and further we were wrongly told by the owner who I think she was that breakfast was not included when it was.

This is not a four star hotel it's dated and tired and not accessible to disabled or elderly people. There is a huge step at the front which my mother had to climb to access the hotel. I have stayed in many four star hotels but if this is four star then I'm sorry in my view not even one star. Would not recommend and very dishonest to say we didn't show on booking dot com when we did and I have the pictures to prove.

There are currently building works going on in the road outside this hotel and when I confronted the Owner/Manager she told me it was my fault for booking late and that "this is...

Cute and old hotel located within walking distance to everything. We parked our car at a nearby parking garage for €18/24hr and spent Saturday from around 5 pm until Sunday at 4 pm walking around the city (slept at the hotel, of course). The hotel gave us a coupon booklet for discounts at local places upon checkin. We went to the breakfast buffet on Sunday morning and they had a decent selection. The receptionists spoke English, but didn’t mind letting me practice my Dutch. The bathroom had a nice big tub that fit two people and a TV that could be rolled around. We took advantage of the tub, but no so much of the TV. The beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. There were snacks available for purchase in the room. The bathroom had a mini sewing kit and soaps for free, so that’s nice if you need to repair something. The bathtub did seem to be a little dirty with dust, but it came off easily with the shower head. There was also a small ant problem, but it wasn’t enough to bother us too much. After all, we spent most of our time exploring Brugge. There is a romantic area around a fountain with lights and a big tree. There’s also a scary elevator that was fun to go up. You swing a glass door shut yourself, and then you press and hold a button to make the elevator go up and down. We went up to the second floor just for fun and to see what the building looked like. Three sides of the elevator are clear, so you can also look out at the fountain as you go up!

3.5 stars of 5. The hotel as a whole was nice. But the room was built strange. The bathroom was separated from the bedroom with a thin door that had glass you could see right through. You could also easily hear what the other person was doing. The door was also squeaky so you could not go to the bathroom at night without waking the other person. There was also a mirror right infront of the toilet wich was a weird place to put it. But the bathroom was nice and clean and had fairly good standard. We ate breakfast one time at the hotel. It was okey, but for 18 euros one would excpect some more options of bread. The scrambled eggs were a bit soggy for my taste. The staff was nice and friendly and provided us with activities to do in Bruges. The hotel also had a small private spa that was very nice. One final thing: the city tax is 4 euros per night per person. I can understand the need for it, but I would prefer to have it "baked in" with the total price. It is sort a :" bye bye, oh and you will have to pay for being our town foreigner." when you leave
