Please avoid this place, horrible experience which ruined our anniversary trip in Bruges. Now looking at other reviews itâs clear ours was not an isolated experience. If youâre foreign to Belgium and, by the looks of it, particularly if youâre from the UK, avoid.
The bar was busy when we arrived, there were no tables but the woman at the bar convinced us to drink at the bar where she was drinking with someone else. We ordered 2 picĂłn beers, something weâd been drinking in every other bar in Belgium (a light lager with a little orange liquor). The barman started pouring out two cocktail glasses we assumed were for someone else and handed us the glasses half full of picĂłn with a beer top. The woman then gave us a receipt for âŹ34 which included the drinks her and her friend were drinking, we questioned the bill and the drinks and they immediately got very aggressive - she called over her âbodyguardâ, a large man drinking at the table next to the bar, who became threatening and they said we couldnât leave until we paid, asking where we were staying and claiming they were going to call the police. We had a dinner booking for our anniversary so paid to avoid trouble. We sat at a table where I took a photo and the âbodyguardâ smacked my phone out of my hands. My husband then stood up and questioned him assaulting a woman at which point he gripped him by his collar and tried to punch him. His friends intervened to stop him and we were told to leave. The bar had completely emptied by this point.
I was completely shaken and ended up crying at dinner. This was the worst customer experience Iâve ever had and it completely ruined our whole trip. Terrible terrible place,...
Read moreExcellent restaurant. We were a group of 10 and had booked earlier in the day because we liked the look of the place. Tasteful decor, seats maybe 30 people, and a building with character. Location is great, within a brisk 5 minute walk of the market square. Menu changes daily with limited choice but, as we discovered, everything tasted great. No vegetarian option the day we went but the owner and chef made something delicious when asked. I had the T-bone steak. Everything main course in Brugge cost âŹ30-40 but in this case it is justified with a huge steak, perfectly cooked alongside a home-made BĂ©arnaise and what seemed to be an endless supply of chips and mayonnaise. There were beautiful king prawns for others and although some felt they were a little under the majority thought they were fantastic so it was probably based on personal preference. Everyone was in great health the following day so nothing to worry about. The house red and white were very drinkable and good value. The service was great and included a few little treats between courses including a little French onion soup and the some smoked prawns for everyone. As always, the best thing I can say about any restaurant is that I would gladly go back again. This is very true for...
Read moreWhat a delightful surprise! De Steenput was our choice for New Year's Eve and it was one that we would not regret: open since 5 weeks, its 15-guests-cosy-atmosphere was the ideal place for us to spend the evening. The service is outstanding, prompt, delicate with a personal touch... There is a rich selection of wines, but what really outshines everything is what lies in your plate... the food is an absolute bliss for the senses! Each and every dish was perfectly balanced, probably our best New Year's dinner ever! A special place to try as well on a more...
