This Japanese restaurant is run by Chinese workers and it's located just next to the Beurs van Brussel and very close to the famous Grand Place. I have been going there quite often for past 6 years since I really love their dishes (the obento/lunch meanu's).
If you like to eat Japanese dishes on reasonable prices with good portion then I would recommend here. I don't really recommend their ra-men if you are really looking for the Japanese style because the style maybe similar but the taste and the noodles are different. For the rest, I can't never complain about the dishes they serve sinces it's delicious.
However, I am probably going to stop going there from now on. The service wise has been ok but yesterday's attitude on their clients were very aggressive and cold. Of course, I won't say all the waitress was like that. One young lady was smiling and seems to ask how was their meals, etc. The normal serves you kind of expect from the waiter/waitress. On the other hand, the main waitress who served my table didn't said a thing nor smile and doesn't even bother bringing my dishes to my side and only on one side (perhaps she is tired? perhaps she had a bad day, but she shouldn't have acted out on her customers). It was same with other tables who had her as a waitress. It makes me kind of uncomfortable to get serve while you would automtically say "thank you" and don't get any reply on it. It was same with her co-worker with the glasses, she didn't say anything while there were certainly some kind of delay on serving our meals (there were three ladies: one with glasses, young girl who smiles and very short hair who was in the bad mood). Furthermore, they always served the meal on the same time but yesterday there was no coordinations at all, too many error's and delays. Perhaps they were tired (I have worked in restaurants for 7 years so I know how it is and maybe that is the reason why I am pretty critic when it comes to services since I often compare to myself).
Anyways, the restaurant's reputation has been good when it comes to cooking show, menu's like bento box, etc on a budget and nice portion. So if you don't mind about having great service but less service as in friendliness (depending on which waitress you have) then you should just go a head and try it!
Notes This restaurant accepts Edenred and Sodexo cards...
Read moreI have frequented Anata for many years. I really believe Anata is the best Japanese restaurant in Brussels. Food is great and the prices very reasonable. In short, it is one of my favorite restaurants in Brussels and I will come back again.
However the last two times I've gone to have lunch I feel I have been deceived.
I have ordered the lunch menu with the tuna steak, but what is served is not tuna, but some other meat, probably chicken. Look at this picture? This meat has never been anywhere near the sea.
I find it dishonest to present something on the menu as Tuna and then serve another ingredient. I wanted a tuna not chicken (or whatever meat this is).
I am sorry it had to come to this. I really like Anata usually. The first time I thought it was just a situation where the kitchen might have run out of Tuna and did this as a workaround, so I decided to ignore it and forgive the misstep. However when it happened again, I see there is a pattern.
I get the impression that Anata in order to cut costs are trying to pass chicken as Tuna - but that is just not right. Write on the menu it is chicken or serve Tuna and increase the price if needed.
I hope you will take this feedback into account and if I order the lunch menu with Tuna again I won't experience once again...
Read moreWent to eat there with a friend on their own recommendation. Great food, lovely service. The ramen was insanely good. To add some extra info, timing of adding the ingredients where on point. The Soybean sprouts still perfectly crisp, and the pork not having been too long in the broth to make the coating collapse and crumble off and the noodles were nice and slick like they should be. The ingredients in general are of lovely quality. Also if you'd look at the last pic i added, the empty bowl with only broth, just look at that colour patterns and small droplet beats from oily goodness on top. Its quality was through the roof. Best ramen I have eaten in all of Europe till now, and on top of that the prices are very friendly. I've been at places with way worse quality who charge about 25% more. If I'm ever in brussels again ill for sure hop by again cause i just have to try the other bowls now.
I hope this somewhat extra elaborate info might help or convince some people to go try it out, ramen is a hard thing to get good, its pretty hit or miss. And they for sure hit bullseye. Anata has won my heart, I thought we had no good ramen here in Belgium at all until I visited, keep up...
