Halles Saint-Géry — Local services in Brussels

Tonight I decided to have a drink in this place mostly because it had nice dance music. I ordered a drink and eventually I wanted to use the restrooms. For the restroom they ask for 50 cents, in cash. I had no cash on me. The bathroom entrance is guarded by a lady who said: “go back!” Impolite and quite agressive! I asked at the bar for a 50 cents change which after about 20 minutes of hassles got solved. I went to back the restroom where I tried to enter, the lady first pushed me away and then after I manage to get in after I put the 50 cents in her hand, she spitted on me. This is unacceptable! Get a QR code if you want people to pay those 50 cents for your restroom!! It seems to me quite illegal to have a bar that serves drinks, and not allow people to have easy access to the restrooms. LET ME PAY BY CARD! These days people don’t have cash on...

The Saint-Géry hallen are a former covered market halls in the center of Brussels on Sint-Géry plein. Today events and temporary exhibitions are organized in the halls but it had a different history.

Originally there were several islands in the Zenne at this location. Brussels is said to have originated on one of those islands, the Groot Eiland or Sint-Gorikseiland. In 1802, the city of Brussels had a market square built on the site of the former church.
