Today, I had the pleasure of dining at Better than Hungry, an exceptional restaurant in Brussels. This establishment has quickly become one of my favorite spots for enjoying high-quality Thai cuisine outside of Thailand.Ambiance and AtmosphereThe atmosphere at Better than Hungry is inviting and vibrant. The restaurant's interior is modern yet cozy, creating a pleasant dining environment. The open kitchen concept allows you to see the friendly staff preparing meals right before your eyes, adding an element of excitement and transparency to the dining experience.Cuisine and QualityDespite branding itself as an Asian restaurant, Better than Hungry specializes in Thai classics, delivering dishes that are made to an impressively high standard. The food quality here is remarkable, likely the best Thai food I have eaten outside of Thailand.During my visit, I ordered the veggie Tom Yum noodle soup, priced at €15. The portion size was extremely generous, making it excellent value for money. The soup was packed with a variety of vegetables, fresh herbs, noodles, and an abundance of flavors. Each bite was a delightful experience, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to authentic and delicious Thai cuisine.Menu and VarietyThe menu at Better than Hungry offers a wide selection of dishes, ensuring that there is something for everyone. While I didn't get the chance to try the desserts due to being too full from the generous portion of my main course, they looked incredibly tempting. This variety ensures that whether you’re in the mood for a hearty meal or a sweet treat, the restaurant has you covered.ServiceThe service at Better than Hungry is another standout feature. The staff are not only skilled in cooking but also exceptionally friendly and attentive. Their warm hospitality enhances the overall dining experience, making you feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout your meal.ConclusionBetter than Hungry is an excellent restaurant that offers a top-tier dining experience in Brussels. With its delicious and generously portioned Thai dishes, friendly and skilled staff, and inviting atmosphere, it is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine. Read moreYesterday we tried the news Thai restaurant in the lange koepoortstraat Antwerp. A fairly new concept and restaurant. Next to another Thai restaurant different owners. We sat down just after 17 hours. Probably a miscommunication with the staff who told us they were opening at 17 hours.
A friendly big smile laughing chef owner came to us to welcome us. We talked some and he explained about his concept. As a Thai national as well and having culinary chef working experiences it felt like coming home.
We ordered Thai sateh chicken and some spring rolls as a starter and 2 different noodle dishes.
I was very surprised by the quality of the food. In a lot of restaurants the chicken sateh skewers are grilled to dry. But these chicken sateh was very soft grilled. Amazing. The spring rolls homemade. Now more curious about the second course. There second course was fenomenal. Good flavor not too spicy. We ordered Noodle Thai massaman beef and pad Thai chicken. The beef was real tender perfect. The chicken good quality. Portions big enough. Prices are more than fair. No dessert just 2 Singha Thai beer on the house. For the first time eating in this estalishment i would give it a big 8. Service is very good and quality one of the better in Antwerp. See you soon
Update: we've been here in the past several times, ordered online for delivery.
last time we've been here we were disgusted by the bad customer service of one of the staff 'lady' who works there. Unpolite lied to us while trying to get a table outside. What makes a nice restaurant bad..a lying Unpolite staff! DON'T GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO...
Read moreWe were surprised at the very high Google rating of the place, and decided to try the place out.
So, we were welcomed in politely, but weirdly sat right next to a person (I mean shoulders-touching-close) even though there were a total of 2-3 people in the whole restaurant. This probably would be normal if there would have been a lot of bookings or many visitors expected, but there were no more than a few people the whole time we were there.
Anyway, that didn't bother us too much, and we both ended up ordering Laksa (Malaysian creamy curry soup with coconut milk) with shrimp / duck, and some Belgian beers. Prices were fairly high (18,50€ per soup), so we expected something quite refined, but unfortunately the quantity is clearly a priority for this place over the quality.
One soup bowl was probably 700-800ml, and immediately the good rating made sense. However, if your plan is to enjoy restaurant food and not overfill your stomach, then look elsewhere. Soup was very watered down, and if I hadn't order it, I would never have recognized it as Laksa. The fillings were big chunks of cabbage, broccoli and carrot, and the duck was in small pieces and actually sometimes hard to find in the soup. Basically, the flavors were there, but unfortunately the magic was missing.
So, long story short, we will be eating our dinners elsewhere, but then again, it's not always about the refined flavours and finessed portions, sometimes it's great to just stuff yourself with good basic food, and for that this place is definitely good for, if maybe a bit on the expensive side. Just not for us...
