Bodega Gent — Restaurant in Ghent

I went there after seeing the restaurant had great reviews online.

The man at the front desk seemed annoyed that we didn’t have a reservation, but instead of telling us no, they gave us a table for 1 hour MAX, cuz our table was apparently booked later that night, okay fine. After we ordered our food with the waitress, the same man came back and was unnecessarily rude about the fact that we HAD to order drinks because that’s how any restaurant works (?!?). Mind you the waitress never told us. Even if it was written on the menu his reaction was overly exaggerated.

He probably noticed he was too rude and changed his tone after I ordered the cheapest drink on the menu with tears in my eyes, but the mood was already ruined. I left after 30 minutes, I didn’t want to give them any more money and overstay my welcome.

The staff at Bodega were incredibly friendly and attentive, quickly seating me despite a bustling atmosphere. I opted for the Vitamin Power drink, a tangy and refreshing choice that perfectly balanced sweetness and tartness.

For my meal, I selected the French toast with fresh fruit. The bread was unbelievably soft and fluffy, soaked in a subtly sweet custard that was simply divine. The fresh fruit added a burst of sweetness and complemented the richness of the dish perfectly.

Nice, cute, no fuss restaurant/cafe option near the Gent train station. I had about 1.5 hours to spare between my trains and decided to go to a proper cafe to sit and do a bit of research. (I didn't feel safe doing this at the train station because I almost got pickpocketed there a day before). I needed something quick and light (since I already ate an hour before) and this cafe delivered. Ordered a cafe macchiato, ice tea, and a croissant. Everything came quick, good service and no complaints from staff about the little amount of food that was ordered. Free wifi was available too!
