Really my worst experience in Belgium this time and in general in a restaurant for a long time. The service stuff is running around, but why or what for? After we finished the starter, nobody removed the empty plates. Cutlery always was served after the dishes on the table. We asked for napkins after we finished the starters and we got finger wipe cloth. After we got the first three dishes, we had to ask for the forth dish. Surprisingly it came after a few minutes. And for the quality and taste of the food. Its quite salty, but beside this, tasteless. I had waterzooi, which I ate first time this year in Brussels, where it was really tasty and great. Here I had the feeling, that I am eating in a hospital during the 1980s. The vegetable seemed to be cooked for hours. The soup was only salty. When we asked for the bill, the waitress excused for the experience. When we payed, I told to the waiter again, that we had a bad experience in this restaurant. He only said he was busy. But then seems he gets paid by running around tables, as he did not do more than this and said, if we dont like it, we should go to an other restaurant. And for sure we will not come again Not even when the food is for free, I will go there again. I guess this restaurant only still is open and has guests because of its location. So if you are near here, stay away. The service staff has no plan, is rude and the quality of food is poor. It was the birthday of my sister and we left the beautiful city of Gent with a bad feeling.

We stopped in here for lunch during a short anniversary getaway in Gent. Overall, we were happy with our choice! The atmosphere and view are hard to beat. We sat outside with a view of the canal, and despite the grey weather and wind, we really enjoyed the tented seating area. We even had a heater. Service was attentive and fast. The food was, for the most part, delicious. We had the soup of the day (carrot) and split a croque monsieur. The soup was quite phenomenal. The bread at the table was typical baguette, but suited the meal well. The disappointment was the croque. The bread was very low quality for Belgium, and the sandwich came lukewarm with half melted cheese. Definitely not worth the 13.00 EUR on the menu. It's incredibly easy, with such amazing bakeries in the area, to get great bread. It's even easier to grill a delicious, crispy croque. All in all, it was a good experience, but the place just needs to step up their croque game in a big way.

Driving home back to Germany from a business trip to Oxfordshire, UK, and we decided we would stay at the Marriott in Ghent, a much-fabled opulent Belgian town that rivals the beauty of Brugge. Well, it does. It is a gorgeous little berg with a personality all its own. Outside the back door of the hotel was a small strip of restaurants on the waterfront and we decided - for whatever reason - to stay and dine at De Witte Leeuw. An exceptional decision, to be sure. We had the usual aperitifs: an Aperol Spritz and a Martini Fiero. And for dining we chose the shrimp croquettes, mussels, tagliatelle, and steak tartare (minced steak). Fabulous. The server was impeccable and forthright, not to mention kind. I had a dry, house red wine with my dinner and the bill came to less than 130 Euros for both of us. Give this little Eden a shot. Perfection in every way. Delicious!

One of the worst dining experiences in Belgium. From the get go the experience was unpleasant. They were busy, but the staff were incredibly rude, not wanting to answer questions about their menu or explain differences in their cuts.... Even with being a purported steakhouse. When receiving our medium rare steak, it came out so cold it was purple in the middle. There were no juices running from it, and there was no flavor whatsoever. We kindly asked to have it redone, but instead of preparing a new piece, they recooked and dried out the already disappointing cut. The poorest excuse for a steakhouse. And so offended we'd ask for actual meat to be prepared properly.... Overpriced instead for low quality. So overpriced. 30$ for basic meat cuts, up to 80€ for what is no way better, 10€ for water, 35€ for modules, and 26€ for 6 pieces of scampi shrimp (their menu says 7 but they at least kindly corrected us that it was only 6 before ordering). No discount for the poor quality which we quietly accepted. But God forbid, When we went to leave with the absurdly 10€ unfinished water we paid for, they came after us to demand we not take it. So they reuse their water in tap and charge you offensive costs to make extra insidious moves against customers. A manager came and apologized and said they'd put it in a bottle we'd be allowed to take and still refused to otherwise rectify the situation. Do NOT COME HERE AND WASTE YOUR TIME IN A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE IN AN OTHERWISE...

Avoid at all costs! We have just had the most horrific experience at this restaurant. We were a party of 5 and were lured into the restaurant by a "lunch menu" advertised on a board in front of the reataurant for €19 each. We ordered according to the offered menu and also ordered drinks.(3 coffees and 2 beers) We repeatedly told the waiter (who was not very fluent in English) that we are ordering the "special". When the bill came (after a very mediocre meal) we were overcharged by nearly a €120!. When we questioned the bill, we were very rudely ousted in front of a full restaurant and accused of being drunk and not wanting to pay the bill. I then insisted on having the police called. Whilst waiting for the police the same rude waiter tried to force us out of the restaurant saying we can wait for the police in the rain. I refused and waited for the police(who was called by my daughter) A manager then came and profusely apologised and asked us to compromise on the bill, indicating that they had made a mistake. They also promptly turned the board around and erased the writing, saying that the lunch special had expired.(Luckily we had taken a photo when we entered.) We showed the police the photo and the matter was eventually settled to our satisfaction. The food was mediocre and nothing to get excited about, but the rude and atrocious behaviour of a waiter and staff, many years our juniors, left a bitter taste. There are so many more restaurants you could...
