oyya - waffles & ice cream — Local services in Ghent

2024 review: as a regular I am quite disappointed with the scoops of the ice cream are getting heartless. For the first time I wanted to treat myself for 3 scoops despite I had a day which was different service as 2023. This time first scoop was good but then second & third was done fast. Besides they didn’t even give biscuit or asked if I want it. With this I need to reduce my rating as I didn’t experience the same even with the staffs and this was not based on one so-so to ok experience. So it became amazing to ok.

2023 review: Very lovely and friendly staff (full of energy and friendliness). There seems to be 2 Oyya store in Gent but this is the small one just at one of the shopping street). This was my first Belgium waffle experience, so my expectations were kinda high considering the hype. I watched them being made and the batter was super thick, much thicker than a typical waffle batter. It was almost like the consistency of what doughnut batter looks like...and if I had to describe what it tasted like, I would say like a doughnut in a waffle form. The edges were crispy and caramelized and middle was hot and doughy. We topped ours with ice cream and made an excellent combo. They are also handling corona very well. I read in another review that a customer worried about gloves, however the time i went the employees were wearing them. On top of that, gloves and bare hands make no difference when they are disinfected equally as much. Actually, gloves are often worse, because people tend to think that they're safe and don't make a habit out of disinfecting their gloves, which is of course necessary. I support both options, as long as people use their common sense.

All in all, 10/10, corona-proof and AMAZING ice cream. Never thought vegan ice cream could...
