Funke — Restaurant in Ghent

Heard good things about Funke until my friends and I went clubbing there. 15 euros to enter an empty club, when the person at the door assured us it was full, is a rip-off.

We tried having a good time after paying that amount of money, but the dancefloor was empty and the music was just not that great.

We tried getting our money back after being lied to, but the person at the door kept making excuses and promising us the club would be full at 3 a.m. and 8 a.m.

More lies.

After going back in and talking to my friends, I was told quite aggressively by an employee to stop talking. We felt extremely uncomfortable after that encounter so we left immediately.

After exiting the club, my friend tried asking for a refund one more time and was told by the person at the door that it would be in his best interest to leave and that he was not getting his money back.

We were told the club is a safe space for anyone and they won't tolerate inappropriate behaviour, but I guess in the end that only counts...

Everytime i go there to party it's great fun (even if you go alone)!

Staff is lovely and open minded, dancefloor has really cool lighting which sets an atmosphere you don't find often, lots of toilets upstairs so you don't have to cue up too long when it's really busy.

Don't let the 1 star reviews keep you from discovering this gem, as it seems they're mostly people angry for not being allowed in, or thrown out for something they did wrong.

Never had a bad experience with the place or crew, only with people that didn't fit in because of a myriad of reasons, so it's honestly a good thing they don't allow everyone in just because they're a paying customer.

My favourite club in Ghent! The person at the door is always super nice and gives you some info on what kind of vibe you can expect inside. All of the staff is always super nice. The average age of customers here is a little higher than most other clubs in Ghent (late 20's to late 30's). Also very LGBTQIA+ friendly. Music style varies, check their fb page for line ups. The smoking room upstairs is usually pretty crowded. But a good spot to strike up a conversation with a random stranger. I often come here alone and make friends for the night every time. 10/10...
