Jan van Gent — Restaurant in Ghent

i ordered an old fashioned on a tuesday night and gorgeous mannequin heads stared in approval from every direction. i felt like i was at home, or at least at a close friend’s place overstaying on their couch and avoiding doing my own dishes.

this very bar was the location of one of the funniest moments of my visit to ghent, in which a work colleague to whom i pointed out a picture of barbarella was shocked to learn that “the environmental activist” jane fonda “used to be” an actress. not to change the subject, but there is also a picture of rambo.

I've always thought the exterior of his cafe looked really cool, and I'm glad I finally went and got a drink there. Not a lot of beers on the menu, but the offer of different cocktails, and especially gin, makes up for it. The interior looks very vintage and cozy at the same time....

An sich eine coole Bar, aber wie in vielen Bars in Belgien, soll man per App oder per SMS bestellen. An sich in Zeiten von Corona eine tolle Idee. Aber ich finde die übertreiben in den Bars. Problem ist die Bezahlung per App geht nur mit belgischen Kreditinstituten, nicht mal Pay Pal und nicht mit anderen Banken. SMS hat hier nur 1 mal funktioniert. Über 30 Minuten hat ich nichts zu trinken. Sortiment ist eher auf Getränke beschränkt, 1 Snack steht auf der Karte, hingegen über 20 Biere. Fast nur junge Leute kehren hier ein. Ich gebe 2 Sterne weil ich es nicht gut finde, dass man gezwungen wird ein Handy zu besitzen und hier auch zu benutzen, dann funktionierte die Bestellung nicht richtig. Ich geh in eine Bar um auch mal ein Plausch mit einem Kelner zu führen. Das finde ich unpersönlich hier. Auf den Toiletten gab es auch kein Warmwasser und der...
