I visited the Royal India Restaurant as I checked the reviews and I wanted to try one of the best Indian restaurants in Gent as the reviews were saying. Before to place my order I asked the owner (not sure but I assume with her behavior) if I could order the Dalih dish and her response was “I don’t think we can do as the kitchen is really busy at this time”, then I kindly asked her if she could ask and let me know as I would like to try different dishes in smallest portions. When she returned she informed me that they could do it but it would take time, my follow up question was “if they could replace the chicken with a lamp - I didn’t mind to pay extra of course and she informed me that this wasn’t possible. Then I decided to order a Lamp korma with garlic naan and a red wine. After of 20 to 30 mins approx a waiter is coming with the Dalih, when I informed him that It wasn’t what I ordered, he went to call the lady who took my order.
The lady started to shout to me, saying that in the beginning I asked if it was posible to order the Dalih dish and when she asked her staff in the kitchen then they started already to cook it - WITHOUT ME TO PLACE MY ORDER YET! She was insisting to don’t take the plate back and bring my order and she wanted to give me discount in order to eat the wrong order.
She told me as well that as I am a customer doesn’t mean that I have right. Of course not all the consumers have right but I don’t believe that was my fault if she placed an order before to receive my confirmation.
I insisted to pay my glass of wine and then I left! And I will never return back again. They are many recommended restaurants with quality food and excellent service in Gent! But...
Read moreIt’s deeply disappointing when an Indian restaurant fails to prioritize or respect Indian customers. I recently visited this place with my family, including my elderly parents. The restaurant was understaffed, and we were informed there would be a wait — which we understood and accepted.
However, the real problem began when, while we were having our drinks, the owner/manager approached us and asked us to move to the first floor, claiming that our table had been reserved and he had forgotten. The first floor, however, is not even a proper restaurant space — it’s a storage-like area with just one or two table.
It became clear that this was just an excuse. The main dining area was gradually filling up with non-Indian guests, and it was obvious that we were being asked to shift to make room for them. When we pointed out that this treatment was unfair and unacceptable, the owner changed his stance and allowed us to stay at the same table.
This is not the first time I came to this restaurant but never seen such behavior here; this was my fourth visit where I've felt first time that Indians are not given the same importance as foreign customers. It’s both ironic and shameful that an establishment carrying the name of “Indian” would show such bias.
My sincere suggestion to the management is this: Either start treating Indian customers with respect and dignity, or remove “Indian” from your restaurant's name, because true Indian hospitality never disrespects its guests.
I am not complaining anything about the food (it was good) or serving food late (1.30 hours) that I can understand due to...
Read moreHad a high expectation looking at the rating of the Indian restaurant in Ghent, but turned out a not so pleasant experience. I have visited much more better places in Europe during my travel for better authentic Indian food. I would like to give an advice to the team, if you expect each individual to have a separate order (which according to me is absolutely right) as a customer I expect each of us getting our orders separately.
My experience ordered 3 curry expecting that each of us will receive curry and rice separately. But what we received was 3 curry and one bowl of rice(Must say the quantity was only for one person in that bowl of rice). We all looked at each other confused and never the less started eating. We thought initially it was some way to avoid wasting of food and we could ask for another bowl of rice once we finish it. But once we asked for another bowl of rice I was shocked at the response "The rice we gave prior is for the 3 dishes. If you need more you need to order separately. But I will try to get some more rice but ideally its not included" The way it was told to us was like they are doing a favor giving you some extra rice. I must say I have paid for 3 dishes and its not a favor that you are doing.
Another advice to the team I would say is to take the feedback in a positive way and try to improve on those rather than just randomly crticizing the customer on the feedback sent, will help to improve your quality and a good customer relationship.
Last but not the least rating of the food that we ate I would say...
