We’ve eaten here previously & really liked the food, chosen from their A la carte menu. This time we went on a Saturday evening when they served two surprise menus of 39 or 49 eurs. We knew this when we made the reservation but thought that at the restaurant they would tell us briefly what the two menus contained so we could choose which suited us better. But apparently that wasn’t possible, it was all a big secret. Only the chef knew. We were asked to say what we didn’t eat but had no way of knowing what the chef would serve so it was pretty impossible to list everything we did or didn’t like. So I don’t eat salmon but -surprise surprise - the main course was salmon. My partner does not like pork belly but -yet another unpleasant surprise - the 2nd main course was pork belly. Anyways, they took back the salmon & the same sweet sauce came back with some prawns in it. When we tried to give some feedback to the man in charge (the waitress had told us this was the first weekend they were trying out this surprise menu concept), his immediate response was “You knew it was a surprise menu, so why did you come to the restaurant?” Extremely rude & aggressive man! No idea of how to treat customers or take some constructive feedback. So maybe we had a bit of bad luck with the mains, but this could happen to anyone. The least they could do is give people some idea at the table of what they intend to serve. As far as the quality of the food is concerned, the starters were good, the salmon sauce was excessively sweet, the pork belly was mostly fatty parts & the vegetables were just average. Will definitely not be going back there - not so much because of the food but especially because of the rude, aggressive, unfriendly behaviour of the...

This was our first destination during our time in Belgium and I would say my favorite out of all the restaurants I visited in Ghent (or Lisbon) during the two-weeks abroad. This place offers a sharing-style menu selection which are sure to satisfy. We had the following: Chicken satay skewers with cucumber salad: Never tasted anything like this at any of the Thai restaurants I've visited in the US. We appreciated that they provided some bread pieces to scoop up the phenomenal sauce they prepared. Shrimp donut/croquette: Very unique and satisfyingly dense! The chili sauce is definitely not something you get in to-go packets. Glass noodle seafood salad: very refreshing along with the freshly made green sauce which was very well put together. I think you'll enjoy the squid and octopus! Red curry salmon: I don't know what they did but this really tempted us to come back. It had such a great melding of all flavors: sweet, sour, salt, but nothing too overpowering. Highly, highly recommended. Crispy chili chicken: At this point we were so full, but we managed to finish this dish as well I don't know how the crispiness managed to persist being glazed in this sweet and spicy sauce, and the chicken itself was so soft. Mango mochi & sorbet: Reasonably portioned given how much food we had, which we appreciated.

I really don't know how I could say they can improve. We loved every bit of it! When we visit Europe again. We'll have to make a trip especially...

Arrival: Arriving with a 9pm reservation, we were directed to our table upstairs. In a corner with a 12 person group next to us, we asked to be reseated downstairs and got a table there. We were very grateful for this, although we didn't understand why we didn't get one of those free tables there to start with. Service: Although very friendly also quite to the point, and missing the waiters going the extra "smile" ;-). Food: We'd been looking forward to enjoy Kin Khao's for quite some time. We had tried twice before without reservation and without luck. So we made sure we had our table secured this time. With an 4.6 average and nothing but great comments, the expectations where very high. Although the food was good (not a single bad comment on quality), we thought that compared to some asian alternatives in Ghent, this cuisine was not particularly standing out. Also, and probably the main reason for only 3 stars, we couldn't shake off the feeling that the overall presentation was disappointing. With an "experience menu" at 45 EUR pp, we have to admit we...

Busy restaurant! That is a good sign. We had a crispy pork belly and a pad thai with shrimp for dinner. The menu card recommended 2 small dishes, 2 normal dishes and a dessert if you were with two persons. I would say 2 normal dishes is more than enough. The pork belly was very tasty! The amount of pork was great. This dish is quite spicy, as you can see on the third photo, we separated the chilis (few were eaten already). I think almost two fully large fresh chilis. Pad thai was also very tasty, funny is that sugar and chili were added separatly. Large shrimps, rice noodles could be a bit more. We had to wait for at least 30 minutes before we got the Pad thai, but luckily the waitress apologised because it was her first day of work and she served our dish to the wrong table. Atmosphere was good, fast service. Upstairs we would recommend one or two beautiful large plants for the ultimate design.

No need to grade on a curve as I usually do for Asian restaurants in Belgium, because Kin Khao is simply very good; the decor is modern and welcoming, the service is friendly and attentive and the food is in the same league as some of the best Thai places I've been to. We went in without reservation but you might be better off with one as the place quickly filled up. Also come in a group and share everything. -- We shared: - the papaya salad (very good) - shrimp cakes (good) - pad thai (should be less sweet) - green curry (good) - red curry (good) - another dish whose name escapes me, look at my pictures (good)
