Read moreI was staying at Hotel NH across the street.
I had to run up to the room and told my husband that he should grab a cocktail at Arion before dinner, while I went upstairs.
Moments later, he was back in the room saying a server told him he couldn't just have a drink, he had to eat also.
I thought nothing of it and we decided to forget the cocktails and to just have a meal in Grand-Place. We did all kinds of tourist stuff, from having waffles to a delicious dinner at Fin de siecle. YUMMY!
We were done at 9:30 p.m. and walking towards our hotel. I had totally forgotten what happened earlier and walked towards the restaurant suggesting a nightcap to the hubby. As we walked up, the server blocked my husband from entering. He said, "You cannot just have a drink. You have to eat."
I remembered and then apologized and mentioned we are just staying across the street at the hotel. Another employee overheard and said we could go ahead and have a drink.
We were there for no more than 30 minutes and right before we left, I asked a couple nearby how was the food because we had one more day to explore. The woman said she had no idea because they had only been having cocktails at this restaurant during their stay.
I can't tell you why they wouldn't allow us to enter the restaurant without eating, but other patrons...
Read moreMyself and my husband came here twice during our stay in Brussels for dinner. Each time we tried a different traditional Belgian dish and some Belgian beer too.
The first time we had: Belgian Meatballs & Muscles and Fries (Moules-Frites) The second time we shared the: Rabbit with Gueuze Beer & Cheese plate
Both times the food was delicious and the service was excellent. This is why we came back during our short stay in Brussels. We were also offered some digestifs on the house which was a lovely gesture.
The atmosphere is lovely, you can sit inside or out and when we did sit outside, they had heating lamps which was lovely.
In Belgium and many other continental European countries, it is considered rude to interrupt people when they are eating so if you are accustomed to the US/UK/Ireland/Canada way of service where they keep stopping to check on you, do not take offence, they are letting you eat in peace. If you need anything just raise your hand or ask them for what you need. This is a general advisory about the service in Europe.
If you are in Brussels, I highly recommend visiting for a meal, I would recommend for dinner to enjoy the great food, especially the traditional Belgian food, great atmosphere with excellent, friendly and...
