They are not up to date on how to properly cook a steak. I don’t doubt the quality of the meat but they kind of ruin it throwing it on their 1000F beefers without giving it some extra love:
I asked for Medium Rare (useally around 135-140F) and received Blue Rare (110F), which means the intramuscular fat didn’t render; which is a waste of a Prime steak. Disappointing crust Lack of seasoning Steak served with sauce to hide the fact that they don’t know how to cook it properly. It was actually nice to have the sauce since the steak is not properly seared, cooked nor seasoned.
You can choose a Ribeye either Prime or Choice; and when you chose the Prime they don’t present the marbling before sending it to the kitchen. It would be nice to see it specially after understanding that they don’t know their meat.
Pleasant staff and atmosphere; it’s not “bad” per se: it’s better than a “steak” from a brasserie because they definitely work with good meat.. but if you like steak, avoid this one. Overrated and...
Read moreThe Colonel is a stylish and well run steak house. The menu is small but wide ranging and they have interesting steak cuts and meats to choose from. Good service, spoken English was fine. However the food was rather disappointing. When we were there, we had the carpaccio, a prime Entrecote and the seared tuna. Of those, only the seared tuna was good and can be recommended. The carpaccio was rolled up and stuffed with salad of which the dressing overpowered the taste of the meat. Unfortunately the meat was bland to begin with and it's texture too tough. Same goes for the Entrecote. It was grilled to the desired doneness (medium rare) but way too tough and contained a lot of gristle. For a 42.- Euro cut, that's not acceptable. I had to leave about half of the steak on the plate as it was just too tough and unpleasant to chew. When the table was cleared I mentioned that the meat had been less than exciting but that was just ignored. All in all no place that i would return to, even though the Colonel got some...
Read moreDelicious. Great fillet steak, well cooked with a great sauce. Loved the scallops as well even better sauces and 4 as well. Cocktail was well made, old Monkey but was a bit too bitter as well. Service was good as well. And the bread was well cooked as well but the butter is in the bottom which I missed. Would I go back - yes. Although it was not cheap. The only problem I have now is do I check out other resteraunts on my trip to Brussels. Oh the décor was great as well and like the presentation of the meet in the fridge. Also the brick wall and at the end is bit mad just wondering why it is like that. Ok I went back and had the lamb nicely cooked but a little rare for me I should have gone medium. The desert was very good with the tweels but not as big as I thought. Also I would have gone for no side of veg with the main as their was loads with the lamb. The fries were very good and crispy and hot. I didn't need a reservation but it was just me and...
