Le Vieux Mila — Restaurant in Saint-Gilles - Sint-Gillis

I don't even want to give 1star for this restaurant. It took me some time to decide if I would even review it, coz it was such a sad experience and I don't like to give bad ratings. It was my first romantic restaurant date with my hubby. We both got the wrong order. He didn't mind as he ordered chicken with pistachio . I ordered goat and pondu. I got chicken with red paste. I told tje waitress the order was wrong. She told me that is what I ordered. I told her I really wanted goat and therefore also the pondu and she didn't want to change it. I didn't eat at all and we didn't touch the chicken or the pondu. We asked for a reduction and a doggy bag. We got no reduction and in the doggy bag was the rest of the food of my date, like bones of chicken. We paid almost 60euros. I am not the kind who wants to give back reviews easily as I understand sometimes people have a bad day. But that was over the top rude, impolite, practically stealing.. So I definitely don't recommend it. If you would go, make sure they get it all right and don't pay if they don't. We didn't have the courage for that but I ended up writing this to avoid a bad romantic...

First time trying Cameroon cuisine and I have to say this place exceeded my expectation. The food comes in huge portions and was very delicious. The grilled chicken wings were great, the grilled lamb was quite chewy but still had great flavor, and their ndole is pretty good though I can see why first timer might not be used to it. Their spicy sauce in particular deserves a special shoutout since it was not only extremely good but also very spicy, way spicier than what an average European could handle. On top of that, the atmosphere is great and prices were more than fair, almost cheap. Finally, you can't really complain about the slow service since it's a small kitchen serving homemade food. Other reviews have pointed out how slow and unattentive the service was which from my experience isn't true. All in all, this is a place I will come back to if I'm visiting...

Service was easily worst I have ever experienced (and that’s after 15 years in Berlin, which has negative service culture). Took an hour before we spoke up and asked what was up. The waitress never put our order in. Then took another 40 minutes before food finally came, and only after notifying the man believed be the owner (who got angry at the kitchen, though it was not their fault). The waitress had the chutzpah to tell us we had no right to tell him. Even after they knew the problem, we were given no priority.

No apologies, no humility, nothing offered as a sorry, and paid full price.
