After many good reviews by friends I took my partner and mother there for a dinner.
The place looks well put together, the interior design is spot on and the service was great. The waiter was attentive and helpful so points for him.
The food was, in one word, disappointing. Firstly, there are very limited vegetarian options. One main dish and two entrés. Perhaps that's the house choice, but i would strongly encourage one more, for diversity.
The entrés, were ok, whilst the artichokes were well cooked and the plate and composition looked nice, some flavour was missing. The hummus was bland and had no hint of lemon and the dish could have used some salt in the preparation to bring out the flavours and balance the grenadine. My partner had the burata and eggplant which was good but again lacking of any salt to balance the balsamic eggplant.
The main dish was the "tofu, shiitake teriyaki". I though okay perhaps this would be interesting presentation or flavours. Sadly this is where I was very disappointed. The dish was actually no at all accurately described. The tofu was fried, ok. No flavours though, quite literally just 3 small blocks of tofu taken from the packaging and deep fried. Would be great if it was seasoned or marinated in anything but no just a block of flavourless fried tofu. Then the dish had a ton of eggplant. There was no mention of it on the menu and i found that quite odd because it was the main part of the dish so much of it was there. Then there were perhaps 5 mini shiitake mushrooms. All of that with some spinach under them. While I have no issue with the eggplant, the spinach or the rice that came with it, again not on the menu to inform me, i have a big issue with the dish being rather different from what the menu had stated. The teriyaki sauce was ok and the rice was on point even if a bit over cooked but that's not a big issue.
Last was the wine. We didn't feel like having a bottle so we went by the glass and that was good. The choices were nice and the quality was nice. However, the waiter made a mistake, and either gave me the right wine the first time and the wrong one the second or the wrong was first and the right one second. He didn't say anything and at the time I did not, but the correction on the bill confirmed it.
This is all a bit of a shame because I had such raving reviews and expectations. Whilst i was disappointed with the vegetarian options I cannot attest to the rest and i hope there are other options in the future where I would be happy to...
Read moreI had an awful experience at this restaurant. We were 3 people and wanted to celebrate a birthday at this place but our evening was completely ruined by terrible service and unpleasant attitude toward customers. We were 3 people (booked a table for 4 though, but the 4th person got sick). A third person was a bit late due to travelling from another country, her train was delayed. The manager of the restaurant came to our table and trying to make us order food for four people, although we had ordered enough food. We took many starters and one main dish and 6 cocktails in total. When the third person came, we ordered even more main dishes but it wasn’t enough. We still felt the disguise from the restaurant staff who wasn’t happy that a fourth person did not show up. We said that we would gladly change our table to a smaller one, but it didn’t help. Our evening was completely ruined. The staff was rude and unpleasant, they forgot to bring our order and we had to repeat several times. In addition, they did not let us order what we want instead they keep insisting on ordering more main dishes. I will never recommend this place to anyone. If you want your evening to be completely ruined by unfriendly restaurant staff then welcome...
Read moreCharming little restaurant not too far away from city centre. Personnel very friendly and helpfull to every customer. Our starters were Camenbert Roti and Carpaccio de Daurade. Both very nice and fulltime of flavours. Main course for me was Tres belle Entrecote. Requested it medium cooked, it was actualy a little bit on the rare side. But nice piece of meat and I enjoyed it anyway. The wife had Tartare de Boeuf, a portion wat too big to finish. Tasted fine, but she disliked presentation and size. Maybe it was assumed to be countryside look, please redesign this dish if presented to female customers (at least). Red housewine was fine and I realy appreciated the draft beer, which was an unknown brand to me (Swaff). We would revisit Ma Jolie on a next visit to Bruxelles without a doubt. We had the impression the restaurant was relatively young and are confident it will mature...
