I wish I could give a better review because I love this spot at Secret Beach. We had a bad experience today & hoping the owner sees this & can correct it before discourages more their return guests, like us find a new favorite spot.
Spent the day at Secret Beach today at Mistico. Got there early (11am) to get a palapa. Our palapa only had one lounge chair, so Mark went in search of another & was told “no”, you can only have one per palapa. ‘But there’s two of us & no one is here’. Still no.
When the tall kid that works there & told us previously that his aunt owned the place, came by, 1 hour later, to ask if we needed anything, I asked him if we could bring over another lounger. (I counted 12 empty ones).
When he told me no, he might have activated “Karen” mode. I nicely said, that we had a pool & loungers at home, but we choose to come to his place at least once a week, all through the slow season, & we buy drinks & food everytime because we want to support their business & help them make it through the slow times. (We live here year round & know how tough it is for these business’ when there’s less tourists on the island)
I asked him, “how’d he feel about us hanging out there & just drinking water all day?” He said, he honestly wouldn’t care & he just works there. Disappointed I said, we might not be back to which he replied, ‘ok’ & walked off.
Our Belizean waiter was embarrassed & did his best to take care of us all day. I ordered my water & enjoyed my day! When we left, there were 8 empty loungers & only two...
Read moreWe had a very bad experience at this place... After a very tiring day of work on a Sunday, my husband and I and his work, went to get something to eat and drink to relax for a while, we like to look for quiet places, and we walked to this place, we bought 1 pina colada, 1 regular belikin beer, and 1 Frozen margarita, we asked for food and they told us that they had already closed the kitchen, it was approximately 5:30... well we took our drinks and the guy at the same time gave us our bill... I got uncomfortable because the margarita wasn't even Frozen, with two miserable pinches of salt... do you see it Frozen in my photo? but here comes the worst part, they charged us $145 for the 3 drinks!!!!!!! $145???? what??? my husband asked the waiter why? and he said my margarita was worth $65 dollars I was scared, I have had margaritas in places like Alaia, Matachica, Purple Pelícano and they have never charged me $65 for a margarita that wasn’t even Frozen… and the worst thing is $40 for the pina colada and $40 for the belikin beer… we really were scammed..!!!! My husband paid $150 dollars to the guy and he didn’t even give back the $5 change… THEY ROBBED US..! I would not recommend this place to my friends I don’t want the same thing to happen to them… Too bad for the owner I don’t think he realizes what is really going on in...
Read moreWe had heard so many great things about secret beach, but when we arrived, the main bars and restaurants here were so overcrowded and loud and the kind of scene I don't enjoy. We decided to follow the signs for mistico , which is quite a bit further down the track and WOW let me tell you this is ABSOLUTELY a hidden gem. The location is breathtaking, miles of shallow crystal clear ocean, many Cabanas and chaise longues, great music, and an excellent menu (food, appetizers, drinks, etc) and the star of the show was Celeste, the server/wait staff, who took the most wonderful care of us. With the most beautiful smile, she grabbed an additional chaise for us, brought us cocktails, was there any time we wanted anything, and just the most helpful and sweet server ever. Nothing was too much trouble, she really made us feel like VIPs. Absolutely amazing! Thank you Celeste. If you really want a quieter piece of paradise, although still good vibes and fun, then you HAVE to go to mistico. It's pet friendly and the little French bulldog was so cute. We so enjoyed mistico that we are back for a second visit. Truly a slice of paradise. Highly recommended especially now when Sargassum is sadly overwhelming the windward side of this beautiful island. Thank goodness for mistico and secret beach. There's also a...
