Barrier Reef Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in South Caye Caulker

Note: no one seems to call this Barrier Reef Sports Bar. Rather everyone just says Sports Bar.

I stopped here primarily because the breakfast places I wanted to try were closing already.

Nothing like sleeping in while on vacation, right?

I sat down and perused the menu and decided to have jerk pulled pork tacos. And a Belikin beer on tap.

This place just a step above a street vendor, they had seating bother covered and under the palm trees.

My 3 tacos were brought out quickly. I spooned some salsa onto the first one and folded it in half. The first bit was without the salsa but had plenty of flavor from the jerk seasoning. It was delicious.

Subsequent bites gave me a little more heat but not the overwhelming kind. More like, “Here I am, enjoy the flavor.”

And enjoy I did.

The Belikin was cold, I enjoyed this meal immensely. Partially because it truly was good and because I hadn’t had much to eat in the previous 24 hours.

Amazing atmosphere (Vaca was during the quarter finals of the World Cup). Outstanding service and attention to their customers. Terique was one of the best servers/bartenders I've had in the US or overseas. Drinks are great but don't sleep on the food! They bring it here.

Bloody Mary's are exquisite. Comes as spicy as you like. Belikin beers are cheap and plentiful. Fireball shots are chilled and they're ready to turn up once the day transforms to night.

As everyone mentions, get the jerk pork quesadillas are on another level of delicious. Don't think about it. Just get it. Shrimp croquettes were BOMB. Jam packed with actual portions of shrimp. Fried perfectly. Crispy Hash brown came with a surprise slice of bacon on the bottom?! What! Lobster and shrimp Civiche was fresh and phenomenal. Tona of limey flavor. Just a hint of real deal spice. Incredible deal.

DIFFERENT DATE NIGHT...

We had planned to kinda spend our last night in Belize with a super romantic date night at a somewhat fancy restaurant. 

However...

Cold, (for here) rain & wind kept us inside for most of the afternoon, then, we made a break for it! 

We had come by this place earlier, a sports bar & grill, and it was packed. Neither of us were in the mood for a long walk in the rain, so we made the executive decision to come try this place out.

Good call! We enjoy hot dogs, french fries, beers & drinks. And guess what? Turns out, we have the best time no matter what we decide to do! Another date night for the ages! ❤️
