I wanted to share some feedback regarding our recent visit to Happy Lobster. This restaurant came highly recommended by several people, but after doing my own research, I initially didnât prioritize it on my must-visit list. However, when we arrived during a tropical storm on our third day on the island and were looking for cover and food, we decided to give it a try.
Our experience started off well, with friendly service when we asked for modifications on our appetizer. But things took a turn when I ordered a daiquiri after my partner decided to order a second beer. I overheard the blender going and rushed to the counter to clarify if they were making a frozen daiquiri instead of the classic version I had requested. The staffâs response was dismissive, with all three of them firmly saying, âNo, we already made it,â while shaking the blender.
When they served the drink, I handed it directly to my partner. However, my partner noticed that the staff's mood had completely changed after I made my request. Soon after, my partner ordered a second beer, and the check was brought to us within minutes. The waitress came back shortly after to take my card but didnât give me an opportunity to check the bill or leave my card at my own pace. I politely told her we werenât ready, but it was clear we felt rushed and uncomfortable by the sudden shift in treatment.
Given this experience, I donât understand the numerous positive reviews of this place. The only reason we ended up at Happy Lobster was because it was the only restaurant open during the storm. If youâre looking for a better dining experience, I would recommend heading to The Pelican Sunset...
Read moreThis was the first place I came on my first visit to the island 2 years ago. It was certainly not the last visit as well as going to the north side location, a couple of times as well.
The surface wouldâve gotten this review of one star. However, the food is still very good so I had to split it.
The prices have gone up a little bit, but when I asked for a two tail lobster dinner like I had previously (They donât do it on the northside location) I was told it would be 80 Belize. I paid 50 last visit. Seriously? They didnât believe that thatâs what I paid. I know exactly what I paid on more than one occasion. Thatâs what you wanna charge that certainly youâre right.
What got me was the service. I asked for a side of coconut rice in addition to the mashed potatoes that came on my meal. I received regular rice on my meal and when I asked for my potatoes, he didnât understand that I was asking for a side of rice. I also asked for my dressing for my salad and then a bunch of people came in so they were busy passing out menus to them and getting everybody settled instead of getting the rest of what I needed for my meal. When we sat down, we were only like the third table in the restaurant. After he said, heâd be back with my dressing he was at the bar riding out things for at least five minutes. When he finally came over and I asked for my dressing, it was a parent that he had completely forgot about it.
Very disappointed in a restaurant that used to be my favorite and I will...
Read moreOn the Monday morning of my recent stay on Caye Caulker, I decided to try and get out to get breakfast a little earlier.
I failed.
Oh well. I caught a ride to town from one of my AirBnB hosts, John. I landed near the main drag and since I didnât get to try it my last trip here, decided to give The Happy Lobster a try.
I was seated and given a menu. I quickly decided on a traditional Belize breakfast of scrambled eggs, beans, cheese, and fry jacks. And a Coke Zero.
My order was brought out momentarily. The eggs and fry jaks were definitely freshly cooked to order. I grabbed the bottle of Marie Sharpâs hot sauce and began eating.
The eggs were good, and hot. I like that.
The beans were a tad too salty for my taste but were good. I should note that most people wouldn't think the beans were too salty. I use little salt in my cooking so I find much restaurant food to be over salty. The fry jacks were fresh, and hot as well. The only way to have them is that way.
Service was good but not...
