My family and I visited D'Amici two weeks ago. We do not speak Portuguese, but my wife and I do speak enough Spanish and Italian to make ourselves understood. None of us were particularly hungry, but the wife wanted to feed the kids and wanted Italian, and so we stopped in. We were met at the door by the Maitre d' as soon as we walked in, and he asked "do you have a reservation?" This was odd and a bit off putting as there were only about three other occupied tables. 75% of the restaurant was empty. This was about 8:30 in the evening on a Saturday, and the restaurant never got more than about 60% full. No one spoke a lick of English or from what we could tell Spanish, but we set about ordering our food. The prices were frightening. There was a pasta dish on the menu for over $100. The cheapest pasta entries were $20 or more with the average prices for pasta being in the $30s. We were not expecting that. Since we were not particularly hungry (my wife and daughter were still trying to recover from a stomach bug), we decided to split two cheap pasta entrees. We made it very clear to the waiter what we were trying to do, not once, but twice. As you can guess, when the bill came we got charged for four entrees, which meant that our pasta marina, gnocchi, basket of bread, one beer and a bottled water set us back over a hundred dollars. Mind you, the pasta was fine for what it was. I just felt like I got mugged by the establishment. We heard a lot of scare stories about the crime in Brazil, but that was the only time during our week there that we experienced any mistreatment. I left the restaurant thinking that they may be sitting there under the impression that they got me, but the Internet can offer a...
Read moreIt is the most over priced restaurant I ever been.. Just a joke bruschetta pomodori.. Sorry you not put some warm sort of bad pizza tomatoes mix on watery bread.. Salt and herbs. And that is it. Spaghetti frutti di mare. I know it comes from the sea or some ocean. Does not mean I need to experience the effect of drinking out of the Black sea.. The salt level was enough to give the right spark to get some parts life again. Filet gorgonzola.. Must give credits. The gorgonzola saus was one of the best I got in Brazil. Pitty the chef not know the meat what was mentioned on the menu. Sometimes you need to do your homework .. But was almost cooked as requested. For most tourists getting their impression looking at the prices at the menu.. Seeing prices for a bottle of wine more than 400 euro.. It must be a good restaurant. Ambients.. Just give the impression you ate in a high class restaurant and than prices are not that bad. Wake up.. And just go not far from here to Dom Camillio. Not cheap as well.. But better food and at least live music and a much...
Read moreAfter all the wonderful reviews here, I had not such a good experience. If it is correct, d’Amici is listed in the Michelin guide. So I expected an Italian restaurant with a lot of flavours. But we got a lot of bread. Really a lot. But perhaps that might be the Brazilian culture. I ordered a steak tartare and my friend a carpaccio. “Less is more”. Well it was less... the carpaccio was really disappointing. The main course (steak) was good. The good things has to be mentioned as well. The amount of food is huge. No one can say that they leave this restaurant with an empty stomach. But.... I really missed the touch of a cook who loves his passion. It was like any other good restaurant in town but more expensive:( For example we were at Tereza 2 days before and the cook there played with his ingredients, every dish was like a fairytale including the flavours. So perhaps we expected too much just because...
