Previously, before going to dinner at Hong Bao, located on the Lobby floor of the new TRIBE hotel, I asked at the reception of this restaurant what the opening hours were. The restaurant closes at 11 p.m. but the last order must be made before 9 p.m. So, the time to get changed in my hotel room, arrived at 8:45 p.m. at the restaurant, I already noticed that the staff was not very inclined to receive me, and even hesitated to accept me in the restaurant. Finally installed after being firm but courteous, and indicating them that it was not yet time, and that there was a quarter of an hour before the last order, I was certainly well installed by the team, quite pleasant. Overall, it was a smiling and finally welcoming team despite the hesitations of the beginning. I ordered the "Fried Chicken with the 3 cups Sauce", without the staff being able to tell me precisely what this "3 cups sauce" was. The chicken was quite fatty, and still had many pieces of cartilage. I also wanted a dessert, but I was refused this dessert, on the pretext that it was past 9 p.m., and without the staff having informed me beforehand that even for dessert, it was imperative to order before 9 p.m. Another disappointment when receiving the bill: Hong Bao restaurant is absolutely not affiliated or related to the TRIBE hotel. So it is absolutely impossible to put the bill on the room bill. A clarification that neither the TRIBE hotel nor the restaurant...
Read moreWow! I was staying at the TRIBE and walked past the downstairs one loads but never went in. On my last day I tried it for lunch and it was really really good. I’m from London so have access to great Cantonese / dim sum, but this really was top notch and surpassed my expectations. I was feeling hungover and the food was so comforting! Loved the BBQ pork with egg noodle and the shrimp wontons. Very good quality, fresh, portions and prices. The lady that served me called Dalin was super helpful and polite! I was the only one in there at 13:00 on a Sunday… which suited me to be honest. Super chilled, immaculately clean, nice Chinese music playing and great air con. Felt a bit of a sanctuary to the craziness of outside. Definitely would come again and you should try it, even if you only get a few...
Read moreMy family had a wonderful Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner at Hong Bao Restaurant. The restaurant serves authentic and delicious Cantonese dishes, with a variety of dim sum, noodles, rice, and seafood displayed on its menu. We ordered 8 dishes (check out the pictures) and was statisfied with ALL of them, both in terms of taste and presentation. My mother who has tried lots of Cantonese dishes in China and Hong Kong commented that the taste and authenticity certainly matches up to the ones in the mainland.
The service was good, and the staff was polite and attentive. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the prices were reasonable for the quality and the quantity.
I recommend Hong Bao for anyone in Phnom Penh who wishes to try Cantonese cuisine...
