Kake by Darci - Studio — Restaurant in Alberta

My husband and I got married on August 5 at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and decided to get our wedding cake from Kake by Darci. We're from New Jersey, USA and were worried about putting a deposit down for a cake that we have no idea what it tastes like. We knew we would have to do a menu tasting in May for our wedding but knew we couldn't wait until a few months before the wedding to secure our cake delivery. So without having tried the cake, we put our deposit down and hoped for the best based off of reviews. We ordered a sampler of all of the cake flavors, icings, and fillings to try in May but we were already leaning towards one of their recommended combinations, the London Fog, which consists of Earl Grey Cake, Earl Grey Buttercream, and white chocolate ganache. We ended up going with a 3 tier cake of this flavor combination with a white mountain and tree design and just a touch of gold flaking on the mountains. It was such a beautiful cake and it tasted absolutely amazing. We had several guests come up to us who told us they normally hate cake, but this one was so light, airy, and not overly sweet that they really enjoyed it. I am typically not a fan of buttercream either because I tend to find it overly sweet but this one was not at all. We even saved the top tier of our cake (yes, we had someone take it back on the plane with them all the way from Calgary to New Jersey, USA and it made it with no issue!) and it is currently in our freezer awaiting our one year anniversary for us to enjoy it again. Zero customer service etiquette. Rude to clients yet feels entitled to your money after not being able to accommodate even if I have nicely asked how much of a heads up does she require since she wouldn't give our full refund back due to the second lockdown in Alberta that was implemented at the time of my booking. (This experience itself is red flag already, paid Dec. 1st, provincial lockdown implemented Dec.13th, cancelling December 14th and wouldn't give our full refund)

We've finally decided to elope and have asked if she can accommodate us on our new date and after saying yes to me via e-mail, she takes it back after I follow-up via phone call since she hasn't been returning my e-mails and says that they are closed that day since I did not place the order. I would have done it if I was instructed to do so, but this was a postponed order, already fully paid and just changing the date. I have sent her a few e-mails which obviously confirms the order yet she didn't accommodate us nor would give our full refund back despite her shortcomings. You shouldn't have said YES in the beginning, knowing what our new date is if you knew you wouldn't be able to commit.

If you are biting more than you can chew maybe you need to re-assess the way you are handling your business. I normally don't write reviews and in fact this is the first time I'm doing it and it speaks volume.

Here's what you need to know: my husband doesn't even like cake and there wasn't a single crumb left on his plate by the time we finished eating. :)

I had the opportunity to get a cake tasting (to go - thank you for accommodating me during covid restrictions) and they included a couple of extra treats and flavours for us, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We ended up choosing one of those bonus flavours for our wedding cake so I am extra glad that it was in there!

Everything from planning out our wedding cake to choosing our rental stand to having our cake delivered was absolutely wonderful and such an easy process. Pricing is fair, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. For our wedding, we chose birthday cake with cookies and cream buttercream, and it was seriously delicious. We had a small wedding party (18 people) and had our hearts set on a three-tier cake, so our top two layers were faux, with the bottom layer being the real one. Visually, it was stunning, and flavour-wise, it was delicious! Our entire family gave us rave reviews about how it tasted! I'd recommend Kake by Darci every time - thank you for giving us such a wonderful memory to look back on from our wedding...
