If there was a way to give this restaurant 10 stars, I definitely would! If you are looking for a somewhere to have a lovely romantic meal or small intimate party, look no further. We recently hosted our daughter and son in laws Wedding Reception at “The Sensory” and it was the best decision we ever made. The entire team from the owner Terry and his wife to the wait staff, Keith, Dave and a lovely young girl, whose name escapes me.
We had previously secured an alternate location in Canmore for the reception dinner only to be told just weeks before that they were unable to keep the reservation. Amidst all that had already impacted the wedding plans as a result of the COVID pandemic, we were now in a bit of panic to secure a venue. This is where Terry stepped in to help! He was able to provide us a beautiful dining room and reception package that were beyond what we could have asked for.
The restaurant boasts a sleek and modern décor with a bit of rustic charm in to capture the beautiful views of the Three Sisters Mountains. There is a private dining room available which is more than large enough to host a party of up to 30 guests. For our event we were able to rent out the private room and attached balcony allowing guests to dance away the evening under the lights and facing the beautiful mountain setting.
Terry and his staff were amazing to work with, as the mother of the Bride, the wedding day can be a whirlwind, but they made it a breeze. All I had to do was drop of the décor with corresponding photos and they took on the task of decorating the room and tables exactly how we had requested and going above and beyond to make this so special for my daughter and son in law. Then to top off their exceptional service, they packed up all the décor that evening and stored it until the next morning for us to pick up, including storing the wedding cake in their cooler.
Now for the food, which I have to say is beyond describable! We were provided two different menu options and had no regrets going with the choice of Bison, Halibut and Duck options. The starters were unique and flavourful, the main course amazing and desserts delightful. Every one of the guests commented on the outstanding meal they had. Our compliments to the chef! I also cannot miss mentioning the amazing wine list available with many options to appease the most decerning of wine lovers.
As I have mentioned the atmosphere is beautiful, the food is beyond amazing but all of that would not be as outstanding if it weren’t for Terry and his team. They made the experience what it was and allowed for us to have, in these uncertain COVID times, such a memorable wedding experience for our family.
I know I for sure will be a returning patron and so will our...
Read moreThe Pork Belly - While the tamari marinated egg adds a silky texture, the crispy rice & Szechuan pepper crust brings a unique twist with a hint of numbing heat. The Chinese five-spice aioli adds depth, but some parts were dry. The pickled carrot adds a tangy note to the overall dish. The presentation is impressive, showcasing the chef's skill.
The Ahi Tuna - is a masterpiece with a delightful Asian fusion twist. The perfectly seared tuna, coated in Ponzu & sesame glaze, melts in your mouth, offering a sublime taste experience. Crispy rice cakes add a satisfying crunch, while the fresh carrot slaw provides a bright and crunchy contrast. The citrus & five spice aioli is a revelation, complementing the tuna's richness with its zesty kick. Visually stunning and expertly balanced, this dish is a must-try for anyone seeking a truly exceptional dining experience.
Steelhead Trout - I had high hopes for the Steelhead Trout, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While the combination of French lentils, roasted cauliflower, fennel, and the raspberry maple compound butter sounded promising, there were a few disappointments in the execution. Firstly, the fish itself was a bit overcooked, which resulted in a slightly dry and less enjoyable texture. To add to the disappointment, I encountered an unfortunate surprise when I discovered a piece of plastic wrapping on the compound butter. It was an unappetizing encounter that left me questioning the attention to detail in the kitchen.
The Double Berkshire Pork Chop presented a delightful array of flavours. While the pork chop was well-seasoned and tender, it was slightly overcooked for my personal taste. Nevertheless, the dish was redeemed by the delightful accompaniments. The peach chutney provided a refreshing burst of sweetness, beautifully complementing the savoury pork. The sweet potatoes added a comforting touch, and the braised leeks surprised me with their tender texture and subtle taste.
The restaurant's beautiful mountain view sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. However, my visit was marred by a few issues, including a lengthy wait time for our food and the saran wrap incident. Despite this setback, the manager was quick to apologize and comped the item in question. Considering all aspects, I would give the restaurant a 3...
Read moreMe and my husband had our wedding reception and party at The Sensory in August and it was absolute perfection. Terry was incredibly easy to work with from start to finish and his team the day of was amazing.
We had 40 people in the small room plus patio and it was perfect. It felt intimate but not cramped (we even had room for the DJ we hired from home to make sure the party was the exact vibes we wanted). There aren’t a lot of venues that will let you have the space until 1:30 a.m. but The Sensory does and we were so glad they did.
The food was incredible. All of our guests commented on how delicious their meals were and my husband and I weren’t disappointed either. The Sensory’s dining menu was top tier and I would recommend it to anyone.
Not only that, Terry and his team took care of setting up all the decor and executed our vision perfectly off just a few hand written instructions. At the end of the day, I trusted Terry and his team to set up the room beautifully (like the experts they are) and they really impressed us. That said, the space truly is the “decor” with the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Three Sisters so we opted to be minimalist with our decor and simply had a dozen 3-stem floral arrangements and a dozen candle sticks and tea lights for the tables. It was perfection.
Having the patio with the bar was a highlight, as we got to watch the sunset from the patio while sipping cocktails with friends and family.
The next day when we arrived to collect our decor and other items left behind, it was already neatly packed and ready for us to grab. We were in and out within 20 mins, emphasizing yet again how easy Terry’s team is to work with. They truly are experts!
We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of The Sensory for our wedding reception. It was such a memorable night and went so smoothly thanks to Terry and his team and we’re so so grateful for the...
