We spent 4 days in Banff. Knowing about the wide variety of restaurants in this lovely mountain town, we set out to eat at a different restaurant every day.
On the first day, we walked into a department store and decided to grab a quick bite at the food court. It was not much of an atmosphere, being a food court and all, but oh my God, the food at the little shack called Banff Shawarma !!! Let me tell you about it.
I ordered the Chicken Shawarma and my son ordered the mixed plate with beef, chicken, rice and pickled veggies. The food was so amazing that we kept returning here day after day. At the end of our trip, we realized that, outside of the pre-paid breakfast at our lodge, and one late-night takeout, Banff Shawarma was the only place we dined in for our entire stay.
The service was courteous and very fast. The food was exquisite: everything is fresh, colorful and prepared in front of you. Their garlic sauce is to die for and the pickled turnip gives color, crunch and flavor to every dish.
For a quick desert, you can choose from their many different types of baklava.
I wish I could take ten of their chicken Shawarmas home with me. In fact, I...
Read moreThere are two kinds of shwarma places. The first kind is run by a dude with dreadlocks who says he's 'seen the world' cause he's visited Tailand, New Zealand, Australia ect, the basic destinations.
Then the second kind is run from two gentlemen who cook the food not because they ate it once in some food stand, but because they have been eating it their whole lives. They know what makes it taste amazing, and more so are humble in their service.
Overprice you think? In normal places, yes. However in Banff where rent is often overpriced, places such as this need to be able to make some sort of profit which can be difficult. So take into thought how much it costs them to remain open in a town often run by larger monopolies of business.
Overall? Wonderful service. Fantastic taste. High quality ingredients.

Read moreWORSSSTT EXPERIENCE EVER ... very rude customer service extremely expensive for below average food Chicken was chewy and not fresh Hummus wasn’t fresh and tasted bitter. When we entered we asked the employee, a middle aged man who looked like he was the owner or store manager if there was any parking nearby and he very rudely told us that he doesn’t know anything about parking which shows that they don’t care about the customers. We spent $60 hoping that the food would compensate for the rude customer service. But the food was also very disappointing. I would give zero stars if I could.
I hope that the owner reads this and make the food and customer service better. If they can’t then they should not do business and rip of their customers who spend so much for below...
