We stayed here for our 35th anniversary trip and could not have been happier with the deluxe jacuzzi room. The room was clean, the bed comfy, and the view lovely. There was a hairdryer, microwave, coffee maker, faux fireplace, and ample toiletries in the room (including a mending kit). The two-person jacuzzi was the perfect way to relax our muscles after all the hiking we did around the town of Banff, Bow River, Moraine Lake, Louise, etc.
The hotel was downtown, making it an easy walk to museums, shops, restaurants, parks, and trails for all ages. There were also a variety of shuttle services to iconic local sites, like Moraine Lake (breathtaking view from Rockpile Trail), Lake Louise, hot springs, gondolas, and more. Anyone who nitpicks the rooms (some are being renovated) needs to get out more Banff itself! Or talk to the staff while you're there and they will see to your needs.
Food-wise, we really enjoyed happy hour at the Terrace Lounge in the hotel and highly recommend the calamari and focaccia bread with cheese. The bartender was friendly, took our pictures on request, served excellent lemon drop cocktails, and had a chef come out to answer our questions about the delicious sauces served with the bread.
The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I did suggest they keep at the front desk a list of breakfast places for early risers like us, but a short hunt at 7am led us to "Banff National Perk" which had delicious meat pies, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. There was also Wildflour Bakery (the only place the front desk clerk knew), but it was crowded so we moved on.
Banff downtown in the morning is very peaceful, and at night it is full of other tourists looking to unwind.
Everything we did was a short walk from the hotel and we enjoyed every minute, so much so that my husband was inspired to drop a knee and propose again after 35 years of marriage. Of course, he was emboldened by our two lemon drop cocktails and, likely as a result of the latter, we both caught the giggles. We will...
Read moreWe had a mixed experience with this hotel. Staff was lovely, helpful, kind, and very busy. The lobby, restaurant and bar were terrific, beautiful, and what a great location. The room lacked - a lot. It was apparently recently remodeled, still smelled like new carpet/paint, but creature comforts were sacrificed in the name of style, or more likely - budget. Great little built-ins, but no electrcal outlets to plug in the coffee pot or kettle! I had to move the coffee service to the desk then string the electrcal cord across the bins to reach an outlet, or set it on the edge of the desk in front of the chair space and run the cord to the ftont of the desk and down to an outlet on the side of the desk chair area. Either set up is hazardous, and especially with kids (liability). This design would be annoying to me for a work space also. Who wants to run cords to the front of the furniture? Terrible design!! It is NOT sleek or modern as we were told, it is just CHEAP. One chair in the room, one, at the desk, nothing on the balcony, no chairs, no table, no flower pots, nothing, just CHEAP. Great view, summer weather... of course we'd love to sit on the balcony, but sorry, no chairs. It's a "sleek" design! BS. The neighboring property had bistro sets and others had chairs and flowers, etc. The balcony door w/screen was very nice though! Terrible washroom/shower cleaning, AND written instructions are required, and provided, to operate the silly shower controls; however, the instructions were for a different layout than was in our room. Good luck, overly complicated, again, terrible design. Not much in the way of amenities either. No in-room coffee/tea selection, no robes, slippers, etc. CHEAP! I'm sorry the remodel isn't very good, atleast not yet, but maybe with some thought and time, and a little more money, the "improvements" can be fixed and standard amenities added to make staying here pleasant as well as...
Read moreI am a wheelchair user and require a fully wheelchair-accessible room when I travel. To avoid any issues, I contacted the hotel more than five days before my arrival to ensure they were aware of my accessibility needs and to make my stay comfortable. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the room provided was not suitable for a wheelchair user. It lacked an accessible washroom and the basic features required for people with disabilities.
I want to be clear; the receptionist and hotel manager were both very kind and genuinely tried to help, but unfortunately, their hands were tied due to hotel policies and limitations.
What surprised me even more is that, in situations like this, I would normally rely on using the swimming pool area facilities to at least take a shower. However, this hotel’s swimming pool area has zero wheelchair accessibility. This left me with no accessible options to manage basic hygiene after a long journey.
Once again, I want to emphasize that the hotel staff did their best and were very understanding. The real issue lies with the hotel ownership and, to some extent, the city regulations that allow businesses to operate without meeting basic accessibility standards.
It’s truly disappointing. Canada is known as one of the most inclusive and progressive countries in the world, yet businesses are still able to open and operate without considering people with disabilities; people who trust these businesses, spend their money, and simply want to enjoy a few days away.
From the bottom of my heart, I hope someone from the City of Banff takes the time to visit this hotel, especially the swimming pool area, and addresses these concerns. Even in cases where an accessible room isn’t available, at the very least, people with special needs should have access to basic, wheelchair-friendly facilities like showers after a...
