The Banff Visitor Centre, located conveniently in the heart of downtown, is an absolute gem for anyone wanting to explore the area to its fullest. From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and courtesy by the staff. They were not only friendly but also impressively knowledgeable, taking the time to provide me with detailed information. I was particularly interested in finding the best scenic bike and hiking trails, as well as recommendations for good local food. The staff didn’t just hand me a map and send me on my way, they went above and beyond. They gave me several maps and brochures and patiently walked me through various routes and attractions. Each suggestion was thoughtful and personalized, and their passion for the region truly showed. It was clear they cared about making sure I had the best experience possible.
What impressed me even more was how thorough they were. They answered all of my questions and made sure I felt confident navigating Banff on my own. I actually ended up visiting the centre more than once during my stay, and each time I received the same exceptional level of service.
If you’re new to Banff or even a returning visitor, I would strongly recommend starting your trip with a stop at the Visitor Centre. Whether you're looking for hidden trails, great eateries, or just want a deeper understanding of the area, this is the place to go. The staff’s dedication and local insight make it an invaluable resource for getting to know the town inside and out.

I also understand how challenging it must be to guide visitors willing to spend $500-$1,000 per day for lodging: food and transportation vs someone on a budget looking for affordable campsites: transportation: food :hike bike opportunities. There was not one single chair to sit down in while trying to figure out the park system.. For a confused/ traveler visiting Canada for the first time it is confusing which services are offered by the park, which by the public transport ( roam bus) and which by predatory private tour companies at 10 times the price . No effort was made to distinguish this . I appreciate they are trying to save paper by only giving maps when asked. Better information was offered at the train station which offers internet and free parking . We did do reasearch before we left buying travel books from Amazon and getting travel maps from AAA , still: its confusing . After a week we figured it out. And will be back to visit this...
Banff visitor centre should be the first place to head when arriving to banff. The staff is very helpful, providing excellent information. what places to see, and must places to see. If one is taking the ONIT transportation up to Banff. The $10 CAD one way trip cost also includes the local Roam bus in the city of Banff. Otherwise . It will cost an adult $2. CAD. This is still a bargain. I highly recommend going to sulfur mountain and taking the gondola or for those that want to save some $$$. It would take nearly 2 1/2 hours to trek up the rough pathway. Is it worth it? YES!!!!
I spent a nice day trip to Banff. It cost me $20.00 round trip taking the ONIT transport from Calgary. FYI. It only operates Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It obvious the price is subsidized. If one travels to Banff, Monday to Thursday, expect to pay $45.00 CAD one way.
Besides the excellent staff at the visitor centre, The centre has clean restroom. Enjoy Banff, you will...
