Not the best experience with Chucks on a slow Monday night. Our staff got together for a staff party Monday night. We are all servers and restaurant staff so we always tip good and are very understanding and empathetic. When we walked in, we had to wait at the door for our whole party to arrive(there was 35 of us lol) and we called 2 hours in advance. In our experience, we get excited when we see a large profitable party walk in. We were treated like nuisances. They didn't work to try and get tables together for us in a timely manner so we could sit instead of clogging up the front door. Servers walked around rolling their eyes at us and giving us dirty looks. Other customers came in and stood at the door as well for long periods of time before anyone made their way over to even greet them. When we finally did get sat our tables were so far apart we couldn't talk or interact with the other half of our party. We moved our tables a little closer together, and had the owner rush out and get angry with us because we did so. Even though one table was already filled with half of our party, he didn't want the remainder of our party sitting down at the other table until everyone arrived? Again, there's 35 of us, so he wanted 10 people to stand in the middle of the restaurant until more arrived? The restaurant was dead so there was ample seating around the restaurant. Once all our staff had arrived and we were just trying to get everyone sat down and comfortable. The waitress that was assigned to us was visibly annoyed to have to serve us. She was short with her answers to us, rude, rolled here eyes multiple times at us, made comments about how annoying we were to her. Our drinks took forever to even get to the table. Some of us wanted appetizers, others didn't so she was visibly rude and frustrated towards some of us who accidently wanted to order main dishes. I ordered a spinach dip with my meal and never got it. Waited for 20 minutes between drinks to make it to the table. She was not attentive to us at all, some of us needed cutlery, refills on drinks, containers, and she was nowhere to be found. The owner stood at the doorway of the kitchen staring and shaking his head at us the entire time we were there? Because a big party on a slow night at chucks is annoying to this staff apparently. Naturally everyone felt uncomfortable, to a point where we were even afraid to ask the server for anything. We had to run after a server to get our bills, after waiting 30 minutes after we asked our server. The server we managed to flag down was also annoyed and rude for us even asking. The whole atmosphere from the staff was cold and unwelcoming. Food was mediocre at best as well. Again, this party was a restaurant staff party so the rude atmosphere, unwelcoming comments and looks from the servers and the owner was very obvious to us. With 35 of us all eating and drinking, the owner should have been happy to serve us and make us feel welcome. We felt the opposite. We were all appalled how terrible the service was here. I don't even want to give 1 star on the atmosphere, food and service. Terrible first time experience for us and we won't be recommending. Do...
Read moreMy hubby and i went to chucks last night in barrie on bayfield shortly after 6pm. We walk in and we were greeted by 2 greeters, asked for a booth but was told there wasn't one available. We were seated at a table one table away from a vacant booth and when we asked if we could sit there we were told No as it wasn't cleaned! Lol Too bad she couldn't remove the 2 cups and give it a wipe for us! Lol Our waitress Peyton came over and greeted us and was fantastic! If it weren't for her we would have left immediately. She took our drink and appetizer order and when we mentioned about the booth she said she would clean one and move us asap! We ordered our apps. At 615 and at 7:03 they arrived tableside! The manager brought it out to us and sh brought it to the original table when we motioned us to us and told her we had asked to move her comment was "Oh I thought I was going to have to kick one of my servers acc for getting the table wrong!"way to support your staff! Wow! When our entrees arrived 25 minutes later. The tomatoes on my chicken club looked dehydrated and the brioche bun was toasted on one side and soggy on the other!
While we caught up on our days events and sipped our beverages we were watching the dynamics between staff and customers and let's just say we both agree that more training prior to opening would have been beneficial to everyone! The view from where I was seated went right to the kitchen area where I could see a big bag of garbage blocking the exit! The manager was walking around and I noted on at least 4 occassions where she stopped servers to ask questions to them while they were trying to get food out to customers! Not once did I see her go around to ask how people were enjoying their meals etc. Meanwhile by the tapping of toes and frustrated looks on faces the vibe was not by any means positive in the restaurant We had heard so many good things about the chucks locations in other towns, Angus,Sault ste Marie and we were looking forward to supporting the barrie location but please do yourself a favor and take time training and hire extra kitchen staff! We understand that every business has growing pains but we hope that you are able to turn this around!
Again kudos to Peyton for your awesome service, friendliness and...
Read moreI drove from Toronto to meet my Mom here yesterday. It’s a pretty standard bar/pub, the atmosphere reminded me of Jack Astor’s. The service was mediocre at best, considering there were only about 4 tables at the time and multiple servers walking around. Ours was friendly but the 1 star isn’t for her, it’s for the management and customer service. My mom ordered a sizzler and I ordered a surf and turf…medium. When I cut into my steak, it was still breathing and had a pulse (veryyy rare). After 7 mins we flagged down another server to get ours. When she came, I let her know that it wasn’t her fault but the steak was too rare. She took the plate, apologized and said she would put a rush on another one for me. 18 minutes later, I had already finished the rest of the food and my mom was taking her last bite, the new steak came to the table. I cut into it and it was a medium steak. I asked the server that due to the fact that we were practically finished eating and that I was likely going to take this to go if this could be taken care of on the bill. She reassured me that her manager was already taking care of it. When she brought the bill and I saw that 25% was taken off of the one plate. I was in disbelief and asked to speak to the manager. He came and let me know that it’s the restaurant policy that if I take the food then he can only give that discount, if I leave the food then he will remove it from the bill. I explained to him that the experience was less than satisfactory considering everything that took place. I don’t believe that’s fair, nor have I ever heard of a restaurant doing this. As someone who works in the service industry, the “policy” is laughable. The manager said it wasn’t up to him that the owner, George Kapasouris, put these rules in place and he just follows them. He said he was going to call the owner to speak with him. He came back shortly and said that George had stood on this “policy”. I told him he could take the steak. I’m more in shock than anything. It wasn’t about the money, it was the principle. The server still got tipped. This type of “customer service” would never fly at the Mississauga location. Save your money, there are better places to...
