I will update this review if I get any traction from the management. UPDATE#2: Positive Progress. So, after several months I came back to Flying Monkeys and was was very happy when I was able to order my favorite chicken wings and a salad on the side
UPDATE #1: Thank you to the management of Flying Monkeys that you still keep an eye on the reviews and for continuing to learn (as we all do throughout our lives). One star is upgraded to two stars. I will definitely stop by again to have a chance to upgrade this review to five stars as it is unfair to leave a review based on one disappointing visit despite many previous positive visits.
ORIGINAL REVIEW I little prelude story: when I was in Istanbul, Turkey and asked for an item at a restaurant that they didn't have (I believe it was some sort of an ice cream), the server ran over to a store across the street and bought me the item that I wanted. This is called CUSTOMER SERVICE that deserves tips!
Back to Flying Monkeys:
They have nice entourage and interior and they learned how to brew decent beer (although far from European quality but better than many in Simcoe County. Their food is decent but not great.
I am a loyal customer who works around the corner and spends at least about $50 per week at this place usually coming there for lunch. I enjoy being there due to several things being decent (entourage and customer service) and beer being better than most as I mentioned before. I always generously tip the staff appreciating their hard work.
One day I asked to substitute fries that comes with wings with salad, which was done (I didn't event think it was something out of ordinary, just wanted a healthier option on the side).
When I came the following week, I was told by the server and apparently her supervisor (although he didn't tell me who he was) that it was impossible to replace fries with the salad. I still cannot comprehend why they can't dump a spoon of salad and add balsamic sauce instead of frying and putting fries.
I don't understand why a decent place after becoming relatively busy abandons the main law of business: "customer is always right" (as long as they don't behave inappropriately)?
During a conversation with the so-called supervisor and after suggesting him a few options to address my concerns (i.e. let me buy a separate side salad) he told me that it was impossible unless I buy a full portion which is a huge separate item on the menu.
At this point I realize that Flying Monkeys' approach is that the customer eats what we tell them to eat! Compare that with my experience in Istanbul!
Anyway, if I am left disappointed and not happy with customer service, I don't think I should tip the organization/people that made my stay unpleasant. I am still paying for items I purchased. I ended up leaving nominal tips showing my disappointment because it was too loud to explain my position to the server and she was not too interested to listen to me in any event.
Long story short, one star is for what I heard about myself when the server and her manager discussed me after I had paid the bill. Instead of asking themselves what went wrong and thinking that they could ask me for feedback they just exchanged a few words describing me in a derogatory form. I just happened to seat at the table where all servers gather in front of the kitchen entrance and I just happen to have good hearing.
Very disappointing visit to this place....far from my Istanbul experience (although I never expect that from...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have frequented this brewery many times as it has a vibrant atmosphere and many great tasting brews. Unfortunately my last visit on Friday night November 20th left a bad taste in my mouth.
My friends and I arrived and we're told there was one table ahead of us and there would be a short wait outside and heated patio period space it was a brisk night but being easy going lads we didn't mind at all and took a seat outside. After a short time a seemingly unhappy female staff member came outside and asked that a group of six split into two groups of three and takes separate tables. Space although we couldn't hang together we complied and gave her our drink order and only asked if she could turn on the heat lamp at the second table. During the current covid-19 restrictions at the time we weren't breaking any rules with six guys at one table but we did what she asked as we all like the bar and wanted to eventually get inside out of the cold.
When our server came back 5 minutes later she brought a manager saying we had to leave. We never gave her attitude at any point. We were compliant and only wanted to share a few beers to celebrate an upcoming wedding. We also at no point gave her a hard time and only asked of her what she was being paid to do. We were sober and polite and just wanted to pretend the world wasn't going crazy for one evening. I'm writing this not to bash the brewery but to underline the fact that we weren't given the opportunity to support a local business through already trying times. Hoping to change this review but have...
