Kelseys Original Roadhouse — Restaurant in Barrie

We arrived at 4:40 pm Thursday Sept 12,2024. We sat in the bar and after 13 minutes of waiting I raised my hand and asked if the sold beer? Our friends arrived at 4:55 pm and we told them happy hour was over at 5pm. A waitress finally showed up after the clock struck 5pm. Since our friends were there before 5 I told them not to worry they saw you sit down and of course they will honour happy hour!, they saw you come and sit down. We got our bills and the waitress said since she rang the order in after 5 pm they were charged full price for their drinks. She said she couldn’t do anything. I asked for the manager and he said there was nothing he could do the system wouldn’t let him change the bill. Well I have eaten in restaurants as I travelled for work all over Canada and the world, I have never seen a restaurant customer so dismissed by a restaurant in all travels. I was embarrassed by the way they treated my friends. My wife and I have gone there for the wings for the past year, We pitched our friends on your deal and your wings and to have them brushed off by the manager saying “The system won’t let us change it, so there’s nothing I can” was appalling. Kelsey”s ownership should be ashamed of themselves for making their employees act that way. This is pure GREED ON YOUR PART! So the $8.50 wine you charged$11.50 for just cost your restaurant, 4 meals a week for the forseeable future. Not to mention the meals the other 3 couples I have brought there in the past 6 months who will not be ordering or returning. I get you were set back by Covid , but your greed in this situation, in this economy only proves you are too high and mighty to give the public “Good Customer Service” ! ...

We've been loyal customers at this location for nearly two years, which makes it difficult to write this negative review. However, the experience we had on Sunday, October 12th, around 5 PM was unacceptable. The issues stemmed from the bartender (the only one on duty at the time), who was extremely rude and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. There were no greetings or smiles. When we attempted to ask about a menu item, her response was cold. Her inattentiveness led to several order blunders: • We had to ask for the accompanying Cajun dressing for our calamari, which led to a confusing exchange where she initially very rudely removed the sauce, while we were in the middle of using it, then returned it unapologetically saying ‘it comes with the meal’ and then brought the seasoning we requested. • The burger, which we specifically ordered without bacon, arrived with bacon it. Her attitude was not apologetic again. When she quickly returned with a new burger, we suspected the bacon was simply removed, not a fresh burger prepared. • The fried chicken was completely undercooked. We were so disappointed that we didn't eat the food. Finally, immediately after we asked for boxes, the server brought the bill, making us feel rushed even though we had just ordered new drinks and planned to finish them. Although it was a Saturday night and the place was obviously busy, we didn't have to wait an extremely long time to be seated. We haven't been to a Kelsey's in some time, so I was impressed to see the decor had changed, an improvement I believe, and actually gets closer to the "roadhouse" feel implied by the name. The menu has changed, too, and all of the dishes looked appealing (and likewise very "roadhouse"-ish). There were five in our party and each of us had a different selection from the menu. Our food arrived to the table in good time and each dish was prepared well and each was thoroughly enjoyed (and some even passed around and shared). Kudos to the kitchen staff! We enjoyed the main fare so much that we decided to have dessert, too, and our Birthday Girl not only received a free dessert, she was able to choose from the dessert menu and not be stuck with a slice of stale cake with a candle on top. I wish I could remember the name of our server, because she was great. Our orders were perfect (even my chicken sandwich with extra heat) and her table visits were well timed - just enough to take care of us but not too much to be annoying. In fact, all of the staff we met - from the hostess, to our server, and even other servers - were very professional and polite. The only thing we didn't get was a table-touch by a manager, but again, it was a busy night. We will certainly recommend this Kelsey's to our friends and we will definitely be...
