I went for dinner with a friend on July 2 - I'd eaten at the Dunlop location & had their food at a catered event previously & it was great. Unfortunately, both the experience & food were a big disappointment. I will say the staff were pleasant & did try...it was very busy & there did not appear to be a manager on the floor. Staff seemed uncertain about many things. I got seated quickly but was ignored. A couple, the man spoke Spanish, came in after me, sat beside my table & they got immediate service. I caught the waiter's eye (he was also the bartender, but I deserve service too) & asked for a drink. He asked if anyone spoken to me & I said no. The people beside us were getting the royal treatment, lots of laughter, basket of tortilla chips (which we were not offered), drinks, then their food came very quickly. When we had questions about the menu, our waiter was impatient with our questions, & left us to figure it our ourselves. I had to get up from the table to go & ask for our order to be taken. And again to ask for salsa piquante. Our meals were terrible - my tacos carnitas were cold, overcooked, tough & extremely oversalted. My friend's chicken was like a piece of shoe leather. We didn't bother complaining because we were already not being treated very well & didn't feel it would get us anywhere. We felt that as 2 single non-Spanish speaking women that we received substandard service. That, combined with the terrible food (Margarita was awful too), will ensure we never return. Huge...
Read moreWhat to say. Personally I will not be visiting or ordering from this place again. Maybe the dine in experience is good but my take out experience was just terrible. I called in to order 2 portions of tacos. Even confirmed my order. (Menu states that each taco order comes with 3 tacos). I arrive to be greeted with the bill of $79 and a ton of food. When I tried to explain to the employee that I only ordered 2 portions of tacos I was constantly interrupted and told “NO, I remember what you said on the phone”. And eventually was told to pay for the food that the guy put so much effort into cooking, quoting, “himself”.
I was angry but I paid for the order assuming that maybe my family will enjoy the food. Upon arrival to my house and opening up the boxes I found tacos with just meat, onion and 1 type of greens on every single taco. There was only one supplied sauce. You will find more variety at McDonald’s . The order came with churros, every single Mexican place I have been - even Quasada which is a big chain, always provided Dolche de Leiche, Nutella or condensed milk on the side - this place didn’t give me anything. I could have cooked all that myself for $10 from Sobeys.

If you must absolutely order from this place triple check your order and ask for the price. Record the persons voice and conversation.
I would give this place 0 stars, but churros were pretty good....
Read moreI’m not sure what happened to the Mexican House. They used to be on Dunlop in a sketchy plaza and offered delicious fresh food.
I would crave their burritos, chimichangas and Columbian churros which were all made fresh. If you didn’t go early enough in the day, they would sell out of the churros in the little Mexican supermarket area at the front.
That plaza was to be torn down so they moved downtown to their new location.
With that move came burritos that are nothing like they used to be, stuffed with overly salty, dry chicken and a mix of beans with “sauce” and other toppings which don’t seem to be consistent, one day to the next. They also come with a side of from the freezer crispy fries which makes absolutely no sense.
The tacos tasted like the tacos you’d get in Mexico but once again, the meat was dry and over seasoned. I ordered a Columbian churro which I hoped would come fresh but what I got was a soggy churro drizzled in chocolate sauce.
The food was disappointing but the service, staff and vibe are all top notch. I love their joie de vivre but I wish the food stayed true to their original roots.
I hate to say it, but people won’t return after they taste the food if they had it before the move.
Ditch the fries and chocolate sauce frills and go back to that delicious food wrapped in foil paper wrappers like we used to get.
